Saga Insurance Empty
PostSubject: Saga Insurance   Saga Insurance EmptyFri Sep 18, 2015 11:52 am

I have been requesting quotes from various insurance company mainly those mentioned in this forum. They range from £500 to £220 for similar cover. The £220 quote is from Saga who I have used before with no problems but then again have never made a claim with them. Also the Saga questionnaire didn't ask questions like what make of vehicle? does it have tracker? reversing aides etc It just asked for registration no, engine size, and cost price. The vehicle is not VOSA registered yet so the couldn't get any info from DVLA so it seems rather surprising to give such a low quote on limited info. Has anyone had any experience with them?

Personally I would go with one of the companies people are using here on the forum who specialise in our vehicles, even if this proves slightly more expensive. You certainly get what you pay for with insurance and should you ever need to make a claim in my experience dealing with a specialist company is a lot easier.

I agree with Irishman, the cover you get from one of the specialist companies normally includes a higher value for personal effects on the basis that you carry more of them with you when on a camping trip.

I suspect the Saga quote simply assumes it's a regular car which clearly it is not.

Many (but not all) have received very competitive quotes from Comfort Insurance and most of the other companies will match your lowest quote if you wanted to use/stay with one in particular.

Comfort Insurance covers ours for commuting/business use with a limited mileage.

Saga Insurance Empty
PostSubject: Re: Saga Insurance   Saga Insurance EmptyFri Sep 18, 2015 2:23 pm

Thanks for all that.To be fair Saga is a very large company and is no stranger to the motor-home insurance market. With regards to personal possessions, camping equipment etc they are on a par with the others and even new for old vehicle replacement during the first 2 years though that may be difficult to achieve. I have been retired for some time now so commuting does not present an issue. My slight problem with Comfort and Caravan Guard was after asking for quotes they kept calling me on the phone every week or so to see if I had made up my mind. Although they were very polite I thought it was a bit excessive. I suppose I will have to ponder some more until Oct 19 becomes imminent.

Thanks once again

Bobbo12. I think that you'll find that's sales. They've got targets to meet and some people would think it was good that they wanted your business enough to call you.

Insurance is definitely a bit of a minefield. I've always thought that following someone's recommendation if they've used an insurer or broker before is as good a way as any to select who to use.

As someone who knows a bit about this sector I can definitely confirm that cheapest isn't always best.
