Hi There. I'm looking to buy a Brazilian Bay & am new to this so any help/advice very appreciated.
I would particularly appreciate thoughts on how bad they tend to be for rust. Are bodywork problems inevitable?
Any thoughts on the pros & cons of air cooled v water & issues about emissions etc. Thanks in advance BH

It sounds like you need to have a read of Tim V’s excellent buyers guide.

Thanks for that HH & TimV. Some very useful stuff there. Was trying to suss out how common these problems are. In other words is it something you constantly have to get treated? Realise it's impossible to say definitively because they all differ but just wondering if generally it becomes a pain or the odd bit of TLC every few years usually sees them right?
Thanks again

The earlier BraziBays that were imported may have required more cosmetic rectification perhaps due to not getting the preventative treatment they ought to have had.  However since we've been online (2009) the word has been getting out that protective treatments are a prudent move, so later years should need less work.

My 2004 has been in the paintshop for odd areas maybe every couple of years since 2009.  But I'm particularly fussy!  As are a number of owners on here I'm pleased to say.  Your camper van is a big investment.  If you don't look after it, you'll lose out not only when it comes to MOT time, but also should you want to sell it. BraziBay is worth buying. Even if minor rust problems need to be kept at bay this should be set against depreciation cost for other motor vehicles.
We bought a car and BraziBay camper at the same time. Now car is worth £16000 less but camper still near to buying price.

My Air-cooled Brazilian was made in 2003, imported to the UK and on the road in 2004. It's just starting to need some work done. Every MOT has been passed and underneath the condition looks pretty good.
You will read everywhere about wax oil and other treatments to stave off rust.
Bottom line is that although they re made in Brazil for a warm climate of regular steel they don't rust like Japanese imports first did when they came in to the UK.
