TORRINGTON — After entering a contest at a Hollister Co. store this past summer, Torrington resident Lizzy Marola didn’t really think she would win — but she was wrong.
The contest’s prize, a 1978 Volkswagen bus, was delivered to her house on a trailer on Thursday.
“I found out that I had won after I saw the picture on Facebook,” Ms. Marola said Thursday.
She entered Hollister’s Chasing the Perfect Ride contest. The “Best Butt” contest, held in the summer, pitted contestants in jeans against one another. Ms. Marola found out that she won while away at college. The Coastal Carolina University freshman said that she was so excited she had to leave work the day she found out.
“I was so thrilled and I just started to cry,” she said Thursday.
After she saw the winning picture on Hollister’s Facebook page, she had to wait to get the official word from company representatives.
“It was nerve-racking while I waited,” she said. “It was really exciting, and worth it though.”
After the bus was delivered, and Ms. Marola had an opportunity to check it out, it was then trailered to the state Department of Motor Vehicles for inspection and registration.
“You never know about these kinds of contests,” Ms. Marola said. “I guess I was just lucky.”
While she wants to take the bus back to school with her, she said she and her parents are still deciding on what to do with the vintage vehicle.
