Weston Super Mare is a good day out . Visit the new pier and get the best fish and chips opposite to the main entrance (on the other side of the road) or visit Westonbirt arboretum (see their web site for info and concerts etc if you want to overnight) , Gloucester is really interesting too with lots of old buildings, pubs and water ways (cathedral is stunning!) or nip off to the cotswolds (beautiful area and enough to keep you busy for a week) . If you want to stay really close there is a sports centre / swimming pool and new library in Yate itself, Chipping Sodbury has a selection of small shops, pubs and the best Chinese Ive ever been too or 3 miles away lots of walks in open country side and through some fantastic old woodland etc...You can even go horse riding or take your bike for some punishment. You are welcome to the free loan car and if you pre arrange can even keep it overnight if you wish to come back the next day. Hope this helps.

If it's a nice day and you fancy a little exercise then here is a link to the Frome Valley Walkway. You can join the pathway along the road between Danbury and Yate rail station - near the railway bridge. It's only a stroll to Chipping Sodbury (maps 10 and 11) with several places there for lunch. The path is signposted but it's a good idea to take the map pages with you. Have not tried the route in the other direction (yet) http://www.fromewalkway.org.uk/frome_valley_booklet.pdf osg
