Beachy Head Trip! Empty
PostSubject: Beachy Head Trip!   Beachy Head Trip! EmptyTue Aug 09, 2011 12:32 pm

Hi All
We needed to try out our new awning so Scooby took us East for a change
Stayed two nights in a small campsite just outside Eastbourne - The Bay View - which was OK but the trip was great
Arrived on Friday afternoon in glorious sunshine
The awning was up within 5 minutes, the pole connection to Scooby took another 5 and then there was the pegging!
We double pegged everything and guess it took 45 minutes or so, including the inner tent and ground sheet
Here it is in all its glory
Beachy Head Trip! Img_8810
We are really pleased with the extra space it provides
The sleeping compartment can accommodate 4 adults and still leave the main area free
Had a Bar-B-Q that night with the odd drink or two
In the morning went into Eastbourne for the day, along the beach, on the pier, walked for miles

By late afternoon the clouds had rolled in and we were expecting rain so we headed back
Here is a shot of the pier we like - taken while it was still dry but threatening rain
Beachy Head Trip! Img_8811
Back at the campsite just before the rain - it rained for just over an hour - a good test for the awning we thought
That evening took a 25 minute walk along the beach to the Soveriegn Harbour area (new development area) where there were boats, shops, various restaurants, a cinema and an ASDA!

Slept in the awning that night - very comfy for two - rained again in the night - another test successfully passed
Sunday morning time to pack up - took down and packed away really quickly
Last look at the beach in front of the campsite (literally 2-3 minutes walk away)

On to the main event - to Beachy Head - a trip (not literally) well worth the wait - never been before
Never experienced such high winds - nearly blew you off your feet at one point
Fortunately the wind was blowing inland
Great views in every direction - if you have not been you must go
Just a couple of shots we like out of the many that were taken!

Next we went on to Brighton, with lunch in the camper overlooking the see
Walked along the beach, on the pier, walked for miles - you get the picture
Saw this great looking Citroen along the way - we like these

An enjoyable Sun-day in Brighton, indeed
Some final shots before leaving for home around 6.30pm
We certainly enjoyed our Beachy Head Trip Cool

Sounds an ideal weekend away! Pictures are great and I'm glad the awning worked out well, the pegging is the downside to the khyam!

If you're using the pole and clamp system to attach the awning to the bus, it might be worthwhile slipping a wee bit of foam between the metal clamp and the top of the awning, we did this as our awning material started to rub in high winds and threatened to wear away the material. Since we've started to use the foam we've had no worries Very Happy

We used a rubber section between the clamp and the gutter but did not think about the fabric
Thanks for the tip Cool

Stayed at The Bay View in March this year as well. How stoney was you pitch, had quite a trouble gettting the awning pegged down with all the rocks hiding an inch under the grass. Didn't think much of the beach, but the Harbour was lovely.

You definitely need a good head for heights at Beachy Head, and how on earth did people used to get in the lighthouse. confused

Hope Scooby didn't get too upset with you guys checking out another vehicle.

About a third of our pegs needed to be moved - went in most of the way except the last inch Rolling Eyes
Agree about the beach - we also prefer sand
Keep it on the QT about the other vehicle - not talked about in front of Scooby Laughing

Citreon DS classic car, they had many variations but it epitomises everything French. Beautiful lines and a great interior. You can pick up a very good example of one of these for around £9k.

Great pics Scooby. That awning certainly looks impressive Smile

Is that Citroen one of the ones with the moving headlights when you turn the steering wheel?

Yes it is pasty.

There's a company that import some great cars from France and Classic Bays too:

Take a peek.

Mind if I ask where you found a pole the right size for a van with roof rack? I'm reluctantly looking at getting a hacksaw.

Think we got the pole from the company below - middle of page in the link below
We used it as supplied
Hacksawing the pole would seem a shame
Can you not just relocate further along the gutter?
Hope this helps

Thanks! I'll get my measuring tape out -- the 3 metre Khyam one would def be too long, 285cm might just do it. Me hacksawing anything would be a shame.
