Subject: New MOT test requirements. Wed Mar 20, 2013 2:22 pm
Having read an article in the paper this morning about future MOT tests, several points came up about dashboard warning lights, seat runners and other bits and bobs.
A couple of things mentioned were daytime running lights, and tyre pressure monitoring systems. Both of which are compulsary on new type approved passenger vehicles sold in Europe. (DRL's since Feb 2011, and tyre monitors from Jan or Nov 2012).
My question is, should all new Kombi's registered after these dates have them?

Interesting. That being the case, Tallulah will need both DRLs and tyre monitors. I guess we'll find out this time next year when she goes for her first MOT.

I dought it will be a problem. As with the majority of things like this, if they're not fitted in the factory or they are built before a specific time the rules normally apply. The ECUs in our busses are no way advanced enough for tyre monitoring.

My understanding is DRLs are for new vehicles sold in Europe after the specific date. Our vans aren't from Europe. There is no requirement to retrofit them.

Which is why they don't already need ABS, airbags and numerous other bits and pieces I guess.
