We went for a drive in bay today alt light came on had a bang noise followed be lots of smoke and a bad smell of rubber pulled over looked in engine bay and found belt shredded and pulley in bits van sill run but would over heat so had to ring AA and get tow back home.all this was down to chrome cover I fitted to dynamo had caught pully and stopped it.all fixed now

NB: folks - daz has a dynamo rather than an alternator as he has turned back the clock on his engine so to speak by fitting carbs etc ... this is not what your aircooled engine should look like, so do not panic!

Pulley doesn't look too happy Daz . Glad it wasn't too serious, and all fixed.
