| Hi guys
I thought I would have a look, it appears you can remove the tax disc even if it has some remaining life after Oct 1st http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/abolition-of-the-vehicle-tax-disc
also it automatically sends refund when you sell no need to apply separately
bit of poor comms around this I feel

| I think that link is for the Northern Ireland site. I assume the same is true in the rest of the UK. ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| Certainly open to 'abuse' however it will save motor traders a load of £ as they won't be paying the road tax. Now down to the buyer. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |

| Yet another scheme to make us pay. You cant sell or buy a car with tax. So if selling a car you have to get a refund on the tax, but it is only for complete months. And the car you buy, yep you guessed it, you have to buy tax from the beginning of the month you bought it in. So you pay twice for that month. Maybe they will use the savings from not producing tax discs to fix a few potholes. ;-)

I admire the optimism about fixing potholes ...but we all know that the money will not go anywhere near a pothole

| Why can't they abolish the tax altogether and add an amount to the fuel. Everyone needs fuel - try avoiding paying for that! The more you use the more you pay. ________________________________________________________________________________ Proud winners of Spike's Trophy 2017 Scooby - Born To Run | |

Road Tax Evasion Like we didn't expect this ..... Very interesting… However, although not unexpected, this is not what I see in court. When I started to watch what happen in court there would be quite a lot of offenders who had the trinity of no tax disc, no MOT and no insurance. ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) came in and there was a spike of offenders who were shocked that the court could identify them. But now courts rarely get these into court unless they come in with a whole other list of problems. So either drivers are now compliant, or they no longer appear in court. I know the police like to give “Out of Court disposals”, but these fines are going unpaid and this will be a problem for tomorrow. ________________________________________________________________________________ I thought the van was blue, but now I'm told its Lilac

| Although I regret the demise of the tax disc for nostalgic reasons, and visible sign of a vehicle being taxed, I think this rise in untaxed vehicles may be temporary. With ANPR cameras being used in Police vehicles and situated by the road-side, on motorway gantries and bridges, there will soon be nowhere to hide. In the last few days, in my village where I haven't seen a policeman for ages, a couple of cars parked in a lay-by have been clamped for no tax. I suspect the rise is due to not knowing the law about the requirement for a SORN or taxing the vehicle http://www.drivingtesttips.biz/driving-without-tax.html I have also seen one of these vehicles on a couple of occasions driving up and down roads in Bristol recording any untaxed vehicles. Of more concern to me is the number of foreign vehicles on the road that are untraceable by anyone as they don't have to be registered for 6 months, and in consequence their driving methods are reflected in the fact. http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-2688915/Government-urged-crack-foreign-cars-dodging-3m-tax.html As for scrapping the tax and putting it on petrol, I was in agreement for years, but changed my mind when we had the last petrol shortage and prices increased. The local felons had to devise a new method for obtaining their ill-gotten gains because petrol caps had locks. In the good old days they just unscrewed the cap and syphoned off enough for their needs. So what did they do,....... rammed a screw driver into the tank from underneath, and got the petrol that way. As a result, you not only lost a whole tank of petrol, you had to get a new tank fitted at a not inconsiderate cost and hassle. | |
