| I know this is going to sound a bit princess and the pea but has anyone found a mattress topper type thing that doesn't take up much storage space? Spent my first night in the van and it was so hard. I have dodgey joints so a really firm mattress makes it worse. | |

| We use Duvalay sleeping bag. It's kind of memory foam mattress and duvet in one. Rolls up not much bigger than s thick sleeping bag. Certainly smoothes out the bumps but 2 of them may be too wide if you have Rio layout. | |

We also have a Rio layout and use two Duvalays, which do overlap a bit. It's one of the reasons why we'll be changing interior to a full-width bed after this summer (but still keeping the Duvaley sleeping bags. I don't think it's 'princess and the pea'-like at all It's really important you get a good night's sleep and that you may consider a number of options until you get what works for you. This link has both mattresses and sleeping bags:- https://www.duvalay.co.uk/Campervans We got ours via eBay, so cheaper than full price. They do come up every so often, like this:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/duvalay-sleeping-bags/202314783147?hash=item2f1ae699ab:g:o5gAAOSw40la~CKW https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Duvalay-Mattress-Toppers-suitable-for-motorhome-caravan-island-bed/253630943294?hash=item3b0d95103e:g:LYoAAOSwrQxa~pug https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Duvalay-Memory-Foam-mattress-for-motorhome-campervans/222976956156?hash=item33ea7656fc:g:8l4AAOSwhJdaymyN P.

| We also lay the pop-top mattress under the Duvalays, to give extra padding!

| We prefer a duvet so I bought a piece of memory foam off eBay and cut it to fit the r & r bed. It rolls up to the size of a sleeping bag when not in use. The added benefit is that on a chilly night it adds another layer of warmth. | |

| Thanks for the suggestions. We have the diamond layout so a bit more space. Duvalay looks perfect. We used the pop top mattress which did help a little bit. | |

| We have a large and very thick woollen blanket that we fold and lay under a regular fitted sheet, along with a regular duvet. We always sleep well. ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| So far we've just used sleeping bags with no topper/memory foam
not had the best nights sleep so far so having read this post I think I need to rethink that . . .

| We tried various options, but have settled on these, which are really comfy. They roll up in to the size of a sleeping bag. The secret is, not to over-inflate! After a few goes, you will find the "sweet spot"

| Aldi have a camping event this week and amongst the bits and pieces they have these, at 5cm thick, not the same as above, but may do the job.

| At the moment we are looking to replace the innards of the pop top mattress with memory foam. 100x90x3 cm. As we will be carrying this anyway it feels like the most space saving option. Also was the cheapest.
I am sure kitycat-86 (the better half) will report back soon. Else we have looked at the vango one and may go for that.
