I installed a Ripspeed DV720 DVD unit in Max at the beginning of last summer and it is superb I highly recommend it. One thing to bear in mind when fitting is to wire it to the leisure battery so you don't zap your starter battery of it's power.

Junior finds it very entertaining when I'm busy either unpacking or packing the van on a trip - or cooking for that matter. With the sound coming out of all the on-board speakers it's fab plus there's an Aux input which either connects to an mp3 player or now that I've got an iPhone is brilliant - particularly when using tvcatchup.com - telly in our Bay. Superb.

There's an extra video out connection if you want to add supplementary screens elsewhere in your Bay.

Halfords have got them on special at the moment.

We have cheap twin screen dvd player system from carrefour in France 99 euro for player and screen and second screen fitted to the rear of the front seats when we are driving and powered from a lighter supply built into the rear seat box which has an on - off switch as well. As our smallest one sleeps in a cab bunk it makes it much more flexible if we can remove and then run the player from table top or work surfaces or for our eldest (Cool who sleeps in the pop top even up there.

It has been a life saver - well actually a sanity saver getting our little one to sleep when she can here people about on busy european sites

However we need to get a new one as they do not stand being vomited on - luckily not in the vw but in our car

Haha

It's a bit too late in the season for me to do it to be honest olive as the ambient temperature needs to be 21+ degrees for my home Waxoyl kit to work effectively. The problem at the mo is that you can heat the waxoyl up in the oven but as soon as you take it outside it congeals in the tubes of the unit.

If you're desperate contact recent joinee Patsy as she has a 'man' who waxoyls at a very decent price using pro equipment.

I know I keep banging on about this particular DVD, but I've recently discovered another fab use for it. As a hands-free phone unit.

I plug my iPhone in via the mini-jack socket and have it sitting in a cradle screen right in front of me. If a call comes in whilst I'm driving and listening to the AUX In mode, the iPhone automatically stops the music it's playing and offers for me to take the call. Accepting the call, I now hear the caller through all the speakers in my Kombi and talk normally towards the phone - without holding it. The phone attenuator automatically adjusts the levels between mic and speakers.

Admittedly I have to turn the volume up on the DVD to hear the caller better - and subsequently turn it back down when the music kicks back in, but it works great - and no annoying earpiece to wear. I can have a decent conversation with someone despite all the clattering coming from Max's engine bay!

Oh and before you ask - no I don't hold the phone - I simply touch the screen, as is allowed by the law.
