PostSubject: Wannabe T2 Owner   Wannabe T2 Owner EmptyThu Apr 01, 2010 2:05 pm

Hi Everyone,
Having owned a classic car in the past, I am very aware of my maintenance abilities, namely none. The idea of a minimal maintenance, good-looking Brazilian therefore really appeals. We have 4 little 'uns, from 6 to 11, so camping is a real winner at the moment. What I don't know is if we could all fit safely and comfortably in a T2 and still have room for a kettle! Can they take bike racks or is a trailer a good option? Lastly, is anyone looking to sell one!? All the best.

Hi Davie B,

With six of you, I think a side awning is required. You can sleep 4/5 in the van using the roofspace and the hammock. Dont go for the 3/4 bed, the full width is better. There are many options on style of interior however Danbury are too dear for what you get, trust me I am in the furniture game and their mark up must be huge based on my research. I did something completely different which I can confirm saved thousandsssssssssssssssss off their price. It gave me what I wanted and more. . They can take bike racks and can tow a trailer if required, I sourched a roof rack which again saves the best part of £250. What I did see at the Volksworld show was a Dub caravan trailer which looked fab. Sorry mate but Olive is not for sale but good luck and when you do buy you wont regret it. If you need any info on what I did email me.

Welcome DavieB

Olive is certainly right about you needing an awning if there's a bunch of you. My Bay was owned by a family with 3 kids prior to me - hence the reason I have the extra row of seats - which have resided in my house now ever since I bought the Bay! You can all safely travel in the T2 - but bare in mind that you may be restricted with the number of interia reel seat belts you can fit. If you go for a full size rnr bed then you should be able to have inertia belts on both sides of that seat as they mount on the side wall of the van. The centre row you may have to just do - like in mine - with lap belts.

Regarding awnings, I've just got a Khyam Motordome Classic which was highly recommended by folks on here and other mates. I've got my first trip using it coming up next week so will post how I get on. It's normally just me and my 9 year old son and even we need an awning as it's a great place to put all the crap you take with you rather than climb over it in the Bus.

The trailer olive saw at Volksworld was probably the DubBox. It was very cool. You can get a raw rolling version for about 5k according to the guy who invented it. I was having a chat with him - Matt Clay - you can see it on www.dub-box.com

They're a few Brazilian T2s for sale out there now - have a look at the classified section of Volksworld.com - there's an '08 for 24.5k there plus if you have a look in the Brazilian Bay Sales section there are the regular folk who deal in them listed.

Good luck in your search and let us know how you get on! Basketball

Olive - it'd be great to see some pix of the interior of your Bay so we can all see what you've created ....
