PostSubject: Eberspacher cab heater installation   Eberspacher cab heater installation EmptyThu Dec 09, 2010 2:20 pm

Hi all,

I know we've got a topic on heaters already, but I am specifically looking for companies that offer an Eberspacher installation.
Danbury already sent through a quote, but I would like some more options.

Does anybody have a recommendation?

Thanks!

I suggest you only use a garage that has experience in fitting any heater (Danbury or anyone else properly trained by the supplier) as its a job that needs to be done 100% right when youve got petrol / heat involved! Good luck!

Having worked in the marine industry for several years and fitted many heater systems especially eberspacher, use a recognised trained company as installation is very important. The installation is crucial due to the fresh air input the exhaust route the fuel line and pump. Also you will then get a warranty on the installation and parts. Tim

Good advice. Its like anything with heat, carbon based fuel, ducting and air flow - get it wrong, and you risk fire or carbon monoxide. So don't skimp on safety - pay for a good job from a fitter who is qualified - its worth the extra money!

Check out AJR Autoelectrics based in Essex. We had our matrix heater installed by them, no problems. I recently noticed that they now do the eberspacher heater. Thinking of getting one myself.

Many thanks to all for the well-meant advice! Of course I was not planning to skimp on safety. Having worked as a paramedic for some time, that would be quite ironic Laughing

Different companies simply do things differently – I think a good compare & contrast is quite educational really study

Does anybody know the capacity of the small starter-tank?

I am currently discussing the option of installing a Diesel Eberspacher (re-configuring the bus to start off the main tank). They're cheaper, more economical, and in most European countries, Diesel is cheaper than petrol.

Have a look at eberspacher/webasco site I have seen somewhere that they have developed a diesel heater for caravans and it has a lovely small plastic tank a little like a washer bottle. Tim

Personally I agree that diesel is the way to go. I had a diesel eberspacher fitted to a T25 aircooled that I had - we just used a small 5 litre tank. It worked a treat!

I got this fitted by a marine fitter - plenty of them about and it is bread and butter to them.

Have had an Eberspacher diesel heater on my sail boat for several years now. It was supplied and fitted by a Southampton based company approved by Eberspacher. The heater takes its fuel supply straight from the inboard engine diesel tank.

Ours is the basic Danbury fitting that a lot of people fit from new. We don't use it a lot but it's nice to know it's there when we need it. Cost was around £1k fitted I think but I could be wrong.

Oh and it's petrol.

Hi Timmm,

I installed a Diesel Eberspacher heater myself. Super happy with it:

- cost of new Diesel Eberspacher unit: about £500 (but you can get used ones from Ebay for less)
- installed my own Diesel canister in the back, left side near air inlet (with a £2 motorbike tank pressure equaliser valve)
- I placed the unit next to passenger front seat pointing forward, which gives both driver and passenger warm feet and also heats up the rest of the bus quickly

It took about 4h to install everything and to hook up the electronics.

It's super cheap to run, I can run on a single 5 litre Diesel tank for the entire winter (using the heater a few times a week on average).  Very Happy

Reason for going Diesel: cheaper heater unit, and you don't need to mess with the bus' petrol system. Also, you cannot get stranded because you used up all the petrol in your tank!

Let me know if you have any more questions. Basketball

Not at all. The canister is in the back next to the air intake. So it's where the engine is, which is practically outside anyway Very Happy
