2013 Northern England Chapter Meet 10/11/12 May

Amazingly we're only 5 weeks off this event.

Tony - is there anything we needed to start thinking about before the Meet? Has anyone who's attending got a Gazebo or Shelter we could gather in?

I think fires are allowed but not sure if you've checked that with the site, Tony. I'm away in a couple of weeks for 7 days walking the West Highland Way so if there's things you need me to do please let me know.

Hope the weather's warmed up by then!

Hi martin , yes I have spoken to site about fires and they are fine with it as long as its off ground and we bring our own wood or buy theirs , and NOT forage in the woods or local farmers land!! As for a gazebo I don't have anything, so anyone willing to bring something along??? Things to do before? Not really , we are going up there shortly to look at some walks, I suppose if we all take a windbreak they may come in usefull!!! Will have think and see if I can think of anything

I think we'll be spoilt for choice in Appletreewick, there are riverside strolls to Burnsall and Bolton Abbey or up the moors to Trollers Ghyll. Can't wait.

Yes ,looks good for various walks, all to suit different tastes,what's everyone's thoughts on how long a walk ? Hilly or flat or a bit of both?

The walk last year was just about right, Tony. Don't want anything too strenuous or it'll put people off. If there was a pub/cafe halfway that would be great.

Ok will do , I'm sure the pubs at either end of some walks will persuade some folk !! Looking forward to meeting up again

I will bring some of my wood briquettes they are totally dry so should reduce the smoke

Aaaah and I was bringing kippers specially!!

No looks like you have us all!! Went up there today ,had a look at site ,looks ok , take care on road to site as very up and down with lots of bends and narrow bits and holes and dips and .... I could go on,but I think you get the drift , slow!!! Nice walk to grassing ton and Bolton abbey all along the river straight from site.local pub 5 mins up road. Pubs and t rooms along / end of routes.wind breaks are def needed as could be windy on site,loos ,showers look fine.looking forward to it,see you all soon

Sounds great Tony. I've organised some very basic stickers at a reasonable cost. They'll be free to everyone who attends. My treat.

Don't get too excited though everyone - they are fairly rudimentary!

I've ordered a Coleman Event Shelter so I'll bring it to the Northern Event. I've justified the purchase by telling Mrs B that we can use it in the office when we have our BBQ in summer (?).

I can't tell her it's a smoking shelter since she's (just about) quit.

It's not entirely altruistic Tony cos we do actually need one. However, drinks are always kindly accepted!

sorry, bit slow at the moment. What with finishing assignments, managing two new kittens (ha!), managing two girls (double ha!) and stressing out about my final placement starting next week, I'm not what I used to be.

How long is your last placement, Chris? Then what happens?

8 weeks and hopefully at the end of which I'll be a teacher. Mind you, with the way Gove is sprouting off at the moment, I'm beginning to wonder whether that'll be a good thing.

Class is permanent, Gove has two years max.
