Lake District in January Empty
PostSubject: Lake District in January   Lake District in January EmptyTue Jan 29, 2013 7:36 am

Hiya

Kampie and I are off to the Lakes on Thursday. Lots of Internet research done to find a great site (that's open!), but still not sure I've found the right one. Any recommendations?

Thanks

If you are wanting to visit Bowness and use the boats that ply Windermere then Fallbarrow is in very easy walking of the town centre.

They do have a touring section

I am thinking of heading to the lakes in February so also been researching sites. The one that takes my fancy is sykeside. It's pretty central and seems okay. Where have you found?

Sykeside is my top choice, but I was feeling a bit nervous about the Kirkstone pass. Especially with the current weather. Anyone done the Kirkstone pass in a van?

The national trust sites look great, but no electric which might make it a bit nippy if I cannot plug in the radiator! So my back up was the Scottsgate holiday park. A bit too static'y for me, but low down the hills! Really want a happy medium, if you know one.

I think if you approach sykeside from the north via ullswater you will avoid the worst parts of the pass.

Sykeside won't be problem from the north - it's at the base of Kirkstone Pass, but I guess it depends where you're driving from in the first place.

My preference would be for one of the Hawkshead sites but I'm not sure if they're open in the winter.
