| Have a look at Red Shoot camping, quite a nice area with lovely walks over the forest. Good clean toilet blocks and a small but well stocked shop. There is also a decent pub at the entrance to the site, though it can get very busy at weekends. Look about for the free roaming pigs! It would be a shame to go to the New Forest and not explore it! | |

| Good suggestions, everyone. I'll check them out - liking the sound of Red Shoot but maybe someone could sell Swanage to me! What's the town like? ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| Lots of lovely places to visit and stay in the new forest - I used to live there. Lymington is great for shops and wandering about by the harbour, Beaulieu motor museum and house is worth a visit. Brockenhurst is good for forest campsites, bike hire and picnics in the forest. Lovely coastline, Keyhaven, Milford on sea with views of the Isle of Wight, lots of pubs. Have a great time! | |

| Also been to Lytton Lawn, nice site. Walkable to the beach at Milford-on-Sea, which is dog friendly year round. Nice pub at Keyhaven & then you can catch the little ferry out to Hurst Castle. The walk to Keyhaven & Hurst Castle from Milford is through a nature reserve - lovely | |

Scooby doo like Swanage. Have been going there for a number of years. Ulwell Cottage campsite is around a twenty minute walk away from the beach. You can go straight up on the downs from the site and walk to Corfe or cross the road go the other way and walk to Old Harry! There is a coastal path out of Swanage past the pier out towards the Life Boat Station and then on to the Coast Guard Look Out Point. You can continue on to Durlston Castle and Country Park and up to the Lighthouse at Anvil Point. We are sure you would all like the available walks - see our Blog in an earlier post for further detail. As for the town, it is another five minutes on from the beach and it always seems to be like going back in time to us - maybe not the 50's or 60's but similar. It is not a large town, but they doo have one or two interesting shops - not too many of the big chains - at least one good chip shop, a cinema right on the seafront and the train station at the other end of the town where you can get the steam train to/from Corfe - perhaps to see the castle? If you wanted a ferry ride you could get the one from Studlands (up the road from the campsite) over to Sandbanks and then wander around there and/or even go into Bournemouth - much more commercialised. All in all, Scooby doo recommend Swanage. ________________________________________________________________________________ Proud winners of Spike's Trophy 2017 Scooby - Born To Run | |

| Stayed at Ulwell cottage and can thoroughly recommend it. It's got an indoor pool which at the end of September would be fab. Mind you if it's an Indian summer you may want to head to the National Trust's Studland Beach. Don't bother with your Speedos though - it's nudist ! | |

| Martin, I agree on Swanage & the Isle of Purbeck in general. The start of the Jurassic coast with great cliff walks and coves. My old teenage play ground as we lived in Poole. I used to cycle to the beach in summer.

| We've missed out on Dubs in the forest, it looks all booked up. However we have spotted Dorset Dubfest, run by the Dorset Dub Club....is any one going? 19th - 21st Sept.

| I've just booked another 4 nights at Lytton Lawn so we'll be there until Friday 3rd, then we'll head nearer home for the weekend. The good news is that I stop working Mondays wef October so we can make it a long weekend. For info we're on pitch 262 for DITF and the rest of that week. ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| Good plot there Abs , think we had plot 426 last year.
The beer tent/entertainment is all situated in the Football Field and no more 5 min walk from your pitch..
See you there soon , we'll probably not get there until late on Friday night unless I can wangle a couple of hours off work on Friday afternoon (think I must have a few in the wood)..

| Just received this message from Dave, one of the organisers: - Quote :
- Hi Keith,
Just to let you know, all the club pitches are on large pitches, so I've put two vans on a pitch. Can you just let your people know that splitters will be required if everyone needs electric. If you don't have your own, I've managed to hire a load. Just to cover the costs, I'm going to have to hire them out at £5 each for the weekend, with a £35 returnable deposit. I have two splitters and will bring both so someone is welcome to use my spare for free. ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| I assume that doesn't apply to us as we're not in Club camping. We're putting the glawning up as we're staying for the full week. Someone on their FB page has asked for a printable logo to stick in their van on the way down which DITF have supplied so here it is: ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| I've got a hook up splitter which I'll bring along. Just wondering if those that couldn't get club camping will now be moved to a shared pitch. | |
