1979 VW Kombi Micro Deluxe?

Hi Everyone!

I dont actually know what a baywindow is, im assuming it refers to kombis that have the large side windows.

If this is the case, my Kombi might not be a baywindow but it is definately Brazilian

I just bought it yesterday, and it has been sitting around for a year without any use.
The owner tells me its a 1979 Micro Deluxe. It's still in good nick, minor things to do besides get the engine started as far as i can tell, the doors might need some realignment etc.


I'd really like to know a bit more about my bus, for instance, the way there are no rear side windows similar to a split etc - is that how it left the factory in Brazil?

Hi you have some bay parts and some split screen parts back end split except rear light front doors and front are bay looks in very nice condition

Thanks dazdub, thats really interesting.. and yeah so far it seems in really good condition, pretty much rust free. I cant wait to get it on the road and see how it drives Would you or anyone know if these parts were assembled like that from the factory in Brazil? I'm aware the Brazilian buses were produced with sometimes an odd mix of different parts.. Is this the case with my one?

I'm really happy with the look of it really, and if it did come from factory like this, i haven't seen one like it before, so to me it's pretty special

This type of bus was produced by VW Brazil and also Mexico. Not sure of the exact years of production but they are before our Brazil bays.

Thanks sparkysteve, But none of the kombi's in any of those sales brochures have a rear end similar to my one - mine is like a split except with bay rear lights - has a smaller split rear window and no wrap around rear windows - and only 3 square side windows. I've seen alot of brazilian and mexican kombi's around that look like the ones in the sales brochures but none like mine?

I'd be really keen to see another one like it!

Is it left hand drive as side doors on left side.

Hi TimV, Thanks its great to be here! Yep it sure is Yeah so it must be from factory then! I was a bit concerned it might be some custom work by the local panelbeaters here in Indonesia! The more I research Brazilian Kombi's the more im starting to realise it's very likely factory spec.

They where right hand drive and could have been shipped to Indonesia.

Might explain things.

I also believe that some VW made by Volkswagen Do Brasil S/A shipped in kit form the kombi to south Africa as RHD models.

I think you might have a German designed made in Brazil and shipped to south africa RHD kombi now living in Indonesia.

Basically Brazil exported to South Africa a Bus called the VW Fleetline.

Do a google image search for "vw fleetline south africa" and you get some odd looking bays / splitscreens.

Thanks Everyone for your help.. seems I have a German designed RHD Volkswagen that was made in Brazil and shipped to South Africa and is now somehow in Indonesia!

Its what films are made of....reminds me of one called The Yellow Rolls Royce.
