| Best place to retire has to be Northumberland. We moved here just about 2 years ago and have enjoyed the location, weather & people. We would not sell up for twice the value of our home.
And that's written a few days after returning from paradise (Aruba in the Caribbean). ________________________________________________________________________________ what is best in life ?

| Having returned recently from a two week trip touring Northumberland, I agree wholeheartedly with you sundialsoft. The history, stunning scenery and friendliness, lucky you!
Interesting list Scooby, although apart from Languedoc I would prefer holidays to those destinations rather than retire. I'm just looking forward to having more time exploring the UK and the rest of Europe behind the wheel of Margot!

| sundialsoft - we need to talk when we meet at my 60th. We'd been thinking of Alnmouth as a possible location but Mrs B is concerned that the NE is too cold! I've told her that she won't miss the Lancastrian rain! ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

We moved from the very wet west of Scotland to the much drier Northumberland. Our house is new so well insulated and last winter we did not have the central heating on auto once just a few hours boost in the evening. We have a log burner but use it at weekends and when friends are round not as a heating source. We will be happy to chat about Northumberland when we meet up. Alnmouth is a nice place to visit and has the benefit of a main line station nearby and of course Alnwick which is a nice market town (We have Morpeth which is also nice)

| I was surprised to see Medellin on the list. You wouldn't have to worry about outliving your pension fund. | |

Moving South On a quick read the article doesn't say much. The North East appears to me to have nothing about it that could reduce my lifespan compared to the south coast. Exercise, good food and clean living plus genetics are what matter, and of course luck
