On second thoughts, Caen is about the same distance as Roscoff, there are more overnight sailings, and Portsmouth is closer to home than Plymouth. You just need to take into account that although it's overnight, in reality I only got 5 hrs sleep this year.

- BB. I entirely understand your concerns, I wasn't in the slightest put out by your post.
I suspect that we'll end up booking our own ferries but I'll give more info when I've heard from Select Sites again. For me the trip and the voyage has to suit everyone- the details won't be hard and fast and the main aim is that we all spend some time together on the island.
How we get there and how long each person stays is a minor detail compared with the fun we'll all have together once we're there. Totally agree Mr B , good luck with the call to Jean and thanks again for trying to put this together.. ________________________________________________________________________________ Steve, Jo TigerLily and Carra the Child lovin' Golden Cocker

| As this will be my first foray abroad with Louie I would like to travel in company with someone if possible .... I would probably prefer the Saturday too due to the Monday morning working issue! ________________________________________________________________________________ "Bluey Louie" ........An Awfully Big Adventure.

| I'm sure there will be plenty of people travelling on your dates, Swansal.
We'll be on the Sunday ferry back, but we're fortunate in that we don't have work to face on the Monday morning.
PS It's 250 miles for us. ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| Ok, I've spoken to Jean Castree at Select Sites and we need to make a quick decision regarding Ferries. The cost to book direct with Brittany Ferries is around £160 cheaper than with Select Sites at the moment but the differential will reduce as the year progresses. I know that @Als has already booked and so have I, because we're having a family holiday before you guys arrive. Select Sites no longer deal with the Sunelia Interlude site but have spoken to them and they will arrange a booking for us but as they don't earn anything from it they would have to arrange the ferries too. They wouldn't get any discounts from the price we'd pay direct to the campsite. Jean is on holiday now for 2.5 weeks but I have another contact called Karen (01606 787666). The site is not taking any bookings until the end of October and my view is that I have just as much chance of getting us in to the area we want as Select Sites. I know that there has been some concern expressed about the pitch arrangements this year in that, whilst they were all together, they didn't face each other and were a little exclusive for the group. Unfortunately, I guess, most people who go to the sites want their own privacy, so finding pitches that face each other will be almost impossible. From my experience, continental sites often have hedges between the pitches and we may have to take pot luck as to where we end up. If you trust me to get the best pitches I can then I'm happy to contact the site in October to book us in but I'll need to know numbers by then to obtain a booking. In conclusion, I can see little benefit in booking through Select Sites but that option is still open to you. If we book the ferries individually, we can choose the sailings which suit each of us and, similarly, you can choose the length of your stay at the site. We will still need to sort overnight stops for those taking the daytime sailing from St Malo but we can sort that nearer the time. I will amend the first post to show those people who have already booked ferries - if you decide to book direct please add the dates and the sailings to this thread and I'll update everything. As an aside, I think that Condor Ferries also sail to St Malo but I haven't checked out their timings etc. I'd really appreciate some feedback as soon as possible so I know what the consensus is regading booking the holiday. ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| Thank you for all your work on this Martin. It's really appreciated.
I'm going to book the ferry later today and I agree that the process of arranging the pitches should be very straight forward to do directly with interlude later in the year.

| Hi. As you know we've booked our ferry (altho may need to make a slight amendment)! Re pitches. Would be good to be in same space but can imagine booking for different people for different lengths of time could be tricky. Also people may want different sizes/types of pitches.
Is it possible to book individually but inform them we're part of a group? |

| I'm not sure about booking opportunities until I speak to them in October.
Wouldn't it be great if we had a fluent French speaker on the Forum? Anyone fit the bill? ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| Mrs HH is going to travel to La Rochelle by plane. The flights have not been released yet but last year there were flights back to Southampton on a Saturday. I have now changed my ferry booking to return on Sunday 20th to allow for this. | |
