Subject: Alderney, Channel Islands import problems, can you help? Sun Jan 05, 2020 4:39 pm
Hi there,
We have just joined this group as we really want to buy a campervan and will have lots of questions. We live in Alderney in the Channel Islands and our local government won’t allow the import of vehicles fitted with a bed, sink, fridge etc which is a problem.
What we would like to know from you please is how easy is it to remove the fitted content of a campervan then reinstall it at a later date. We would need to take everything out each time we bring the campervan home from a trip away, store everything then re fit it when we want to go away again.
Its a real pain but its the only way we can see that we can import a campervan to Alderney.

Looks like you could use the original Splitty 'Camping box' developed before fitted interiors. However there are several more modern companies that sell removeable fittings. Perhaps better to start with an empty Kombi and add removeable kit. Just one example here, they seem to have a removeable Maxi Pod for a T5 but might be adapted to a BraziBay

Hope you find a way to escape from Alderney without too much trouble.

Do you have to 'import' it? Can you buy one on UK plates and 'remove' it occasionally to meet the legislation?

Just a thought. Rather than struggle with the idea of removing the fitted content each time why not go for a blank canvas and add a Glawning to the side. You can easily fit a full camping interior (cooking facilities, fridge, beds, wood burner etc) into this with the bonus of packing it away at the end of a trip and storing it in your van.

We look forward to hearing from you, thanks J & M
Hi There are many ways My wife managed to take our interior out in 2 hours My brother in law has adapted the furniture so that we can take them out and anchor them in easily. The furniture can now be removed or put back in less than 30 mins So easy. And we get to use it as a van as well
