Sleepover on its way - think about generators!

We're moving our annual show to a new location this year and consequently there will be no electric hook-ups available for connecting the campers to.

There will be power for the marquee and toilet/shower blocks that we're hiring in, but you may want to think about getting your own portable generator, just in case you want to top up your leisure battery, run any low wattage mains items from, etc.

There's a variety out there and many of us have the cheap and cheerful 720W type that can often be picked up in places such as Lidl for around £60.

Have a look through this selection from Machine Mart and give it some consideration.  I'm not suggesting this is something you definitely require, but you may want to consider.

The Lidl version usually goes on sale in May. Just in time for the sleepover!

We'll have our Aldi one with us at the sleepover.

Mine wouldn't start the last time I tried it. Might have a look tomorrow.

Good point, mines been in the shed for almost 2 years without being started, I'll give a test drive when the weather warms up a bit.

Does anyone actually use their generator regularly? I get the impression that they tend to sit in garages gathering dust.

We agree - sounds a good idea, but rarely used.

We rarely use ours but it's good to know it's there when we need it (or it will be, when I get it going again).

We usually book sites with EHU but occasionally don't, when it comes into its own. Having said that we're going to Foxholes Castle for May Day and they don't have EHU and also don't allow generators.

I bought a second hand Honda off Ebay - it's pretty quiet but I'm still glad when it's switched off.

Yep looks the business - you need to weigh up the amount of use you're going to get out of something like this versus how much you spend.

Do you think that would have enough output, i think i would go for a 2kw if possible.

You're dead right. Judging by the amount of use members who own one have had from theirs there seems very little point in spending £700 + on a model unless, of course, you're into a bit of wild camping.

I dont use mine too often but when I do it's a great addition to have ...

I've used ours at home - and on our allotment when we had one - more than when out in Tallulah, but it is a useful option occasionally.

Would anyone be interested in a phone charging or leisure battery 'topup' service at the sleepover in exchange for a charity donation?

If there is enough interest then we can look at putting a plan together.
