I've tried lots of heaters in varoius vans and am happiest with my current fan heater. Made by Glen/Dimplex but says 'ewt' on the front, charcoal grey plastic case about 8" x 6" x 5" deep. Cost £20 from Argos a few years ago. The fan has 2 speeds for 750W and 1500W and no thermostat. I've found that on the low setting, the fan is so quiet that I can easily sleep. I find that the on/off of a thermostat type wakes me and use the high power setting for rapid warm up then switch to low power, 750W seems good for all night use in cold weather.

Hi all,
looking for recommendations for a portable heater for using in Bumble over the winter.
I've seen lots of adverts for the Quest version of this (£13.50 in Go outdoors), but most of the reviews say they only last a short while and elements go very quickly; no good if you're away!

We have a heater similar to the one in the link below that we bought from Just Kampers years ago for around £15.00. Have not left the heater on over night, but our heater warms the Kombi up quickly on just one bar and it has the tilt switch off function too. Hope this may help.

We too have a small 600watt oil filled thermostatically controlled heater. Only needs to be a low heat otherwise van will get a condensation problem. We also regularly leave it on 24/7.

Thanks all,
Scooby, that's like the Quartz one I was looking at, but the reviews were really bad (no matter with which company it was badged); i.e. that the bars go quite quickly, many only last a few days (let alone weeks) and many have given up having them replaced. So you've had yours for quite a while then?
I'm not necessarily looking for something to have on overnight; more to take the chill off the van in the evening and morning.

I've been using this one for the last year. http://www.camping-intl.com/products/accessories/kampa-diddy-ceramic-fan-heater/
Its very small, takes up little space, and has 700/1500 watt heater selection. I use it in conjunction with a plug in thermostat socket (Although the thermostat cost more than the heater) and am very pleased with the performance. I have not yet been out in sub zero temperatures but on several nights the outside temperature was down to 2 degrees and never got cold inside. If used in Europe, where the EHU circuit breakers are usually only 6 amp it still did not trip their system although the 1500 watt setting was rarely required.

We must of had our heater for around 4 or 5 years at least.

Thanks all, for your comments and recommendations. In the end, I followed my nose - from bobbo12's Kampa, to a Sealey one that was recommended as better than the Kampa (as it incorporated a thermostat), to a newer version of the Sealey and ended up buying this heater:-
