Drove home from Cornbury Festival in Oxfordshire - what a FAB weekend

Treated Scooby to a wash after his weekend away!

Took dizzy for MOT after replacing reverse light switch which I found wasn't working during my pre-test inspection, only to discover it would have been a failure as post Sept 2009 need them to work. Passed with flying colours, one advisory 'very slight play in steering'. Garage not much experienced in characteristics of kombis.

Please can you say are you running the original steering box or is it a replacement rack & pinnion system?

Hi osg, best wishes to you too. I have the rack and pinion without PAS. They were referring to the idler pin which is common to both.

I had assumed that all possible sources of free-play were replaced when changing to rack & pinnion steering. We live and learn - especially on this Forum

I had previously removed the pop-top boards, as we didn't need them for children and they were heavy and high in the bus, so lowered the centre of gravity a bit.

As part of my stamp on things at VW Kampers, when we supply a Kombi with new bed boards now, we are not fitting them with hinges - simply the 1 large section with 2 half sections. That way people can choose how to use their boards to suit. Keeps things flexible.

Charged both batteries and started to pack Bessy Blue in readiness for a long weekend camp on the Suffolk coast.

Drove up to the Peak District and stayed in a campsite there for a couple of days (and a football match!), then down to Quorn, staying in a railway station car park for a work event on Tuesday.

Went to Derwent water dam and the village of Eyam, plus also driving back home near the village of 'Barton in the beans'.

Drove to Chichester, via Guildford and stayed overnight in the car park of The Pheasant Inn, Singleton, for free.

The pub had a beer festival going on and had several motorhomes staying for the whole weekend, it seemed. We missed the music earlier in the evening but did get to have a drink.

Time to Clean up after Arctic Circle road trip and see about refurbing the spare wheel mounts they seem to be flaking badly, wondering if they have captive nuts and bolts, cant think how would remount if the nuts fell inside

You can get to them a little fiddly, took ours off got it powder coated.

Drove up to Quorn, last Monday, staying on a working farm campsite until Friday. I was undertaking some thinking-focused development at a nearby centre, so it was good to be able to cycle to the centre each day.

No, it wasn't and started working at about 6am each day!

I did, however, buy some Quorn mince in the Quorn branch of the Co-op.
