| Hi All Just posted a couple of pictures of my new van - Betsy Had trouble with the ECU but that has been eventually fixed and the engine has had a mechanic give it a good service. Got lots to do over the winter and have bought Betsy some presents to spruce her up a bit. Will keep you updated with what get's done and I'm sure I'll be seeking some advice as we are new to all this. Hopefully see some of you next year at some events Have a great New Year Best Wishes Marcus | |

| What colours are you considering Marcus? I'd stay away from those common blue shades. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |

| Marcus Some bold contrasting colour(s) would be good - inside or outside As you must be aware Blue is Cool in all shades and applications But if not Blue then shades of Yellow would also work well Or perhaps a Sporty Red Colour as an ironic statement on how fast the camper will not go Have a look around the Forum to see what works for you Rooby Roo ________________________________________________________________________________ Proud winners of Spike's Trophy 2017 Scooby - Born To Run | |

| I have decided to paint the lower half in a mint colour. My second choice was a charcoal grey.
Sorry Tim but it is a bluey/green colour. Not sure of the code for it but Danbury have one for sale on Ebay.
Got some lovely 15" wheels from Midland Wheels in White with a chrome edge. Look similar to Kitemans. Not fitting them until the paintwork in complete though.
Bought some Stainless steel wing mirrors from VW Heritage but need to borrow a socket set to fit them as my Allen Keys are too small.
Fitted the clear indicators with orange bulbs which was an easy job.
Is there anyone who has fitted headlining to their camper as that is a job I need to do or get done depending on how hard it will be.
My wife says I'm getting obsessed and I've only just started. Think she's jelous of the new love in my life!

| What about painting the white part of the wheels same as your chosen outside colour, or is that too much | |

| Hi and welcome. take a look at my van ALBERT in the photos section, you can see the headlining I put into mine. I used hardboard and lined it with insulation and popped it into place. give me a shout if you are putting in a lining as I have a few things I would have done differently for an even better finish. the whole lot cost me about £50 and a bit of swearing on a sunday afternoon! | |

| I did think of painting the steel wheels the same colour as the lower half but opted for the white wheels. Can wait to get the new wheels on | |

| I had noticed the lack of the side indicators and I'll look into that one.
It does have a fog light under the back bumper though

| Legally all vehicles used on the UK roads must have side repeaters if they are registered newer than 1985. This doesn't mean you get round it by fitting a pre '85 reg on your vehicle. In theory, the lack of repeaters should cause an MOT failure. However this seems to be at the whim of the MOT inspector.
Given the choice, I wouldn't have fitted the repeaters where most Kombis, including mine, have had them installed. I would have preferred them to go on the lower section of the cab doors under the contour line. They would have looked more like a US style side marker light there, they would have been easier to access, trailing the wires through the same channel as the speaker wires, and would have prevented opening a hole into a section of the body that is difficult to check for corrosion. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay

| Hi Tim
Just had a look at the American side repeaters and it looks a good place to put them
Think I may get this done before the paint job - another job for the list

| Yes certainly drill the holes BEFORE painting as that will give the new holes a decent coating. I might move mine at some point and change the repeater units to a rectangular shape that is more in line with the shape of the Kombi.
Something of this ilk:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Polo-Mk3-91-94-Side-Repeaters-Clear-/330607923065?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cf9c48f79#ht_1969wt_932
If you fit this type you do have to get the bulb holder separately as these aren't sold with just the lens.
A good move would be to go for a led unit that is self contained.
Something like these:

| Yep I like those and the fact you only need to drill a small hole for the feed. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |
