Norman has gone. Towed away!! Very sad.

He towed it in reverse. All ok.

Next question, do the AA do returns??

Uh, how horrible. Does give us a jolt of recognition. Our van was also purchased Dec 2012, and must be similar age to Norman. After a day out on the only sunny day in March, we had a squeaky clutch, and on inspection found that the pedal was like a loose tooth. Took a gamble that it was serious but simple, and took it to the nearest VW garage. They tightened up everything that looked loose, and now the whole clutch/ gear change is improved for less than the cost of petrol to Danbury. Seriously question their pre sales inspection, and suspect that a few more miles and we would have been joining you on the AA wagon.
Not good owner experience, especially given the cost. Hope Norman is improved for this trip to the vet.

Thanks for the comments. Very interesting to read.

I'm sure it's going all that way to have a repair that will take very little time. But as its in warranty even the AA guy advised me to do that.

Poor Norman & you.
I had clutch problems last year which a local garage (Jacks in west London) sorted by just adjusting something & then I took her to Danburys before the warranty ran out & they put in a new cable for free.
The cable never actually snapped but we couldn't change gear with the engine running. I was half way up the Old Kent Road when it happened & had to drive home in second gear.

The recovery people put Zoe on a trailer to get to the garage - they would have charged me an arm & a leg to tow to Danburys as they only do up to 15 miles & I wouldn't have been able to pick her up coz of work.
I agree though - worst sight in the world seeing your Kombi on the tow truck Sad

Hope Norman gets fixed soon & back to you.

Many thanks. I don't think my cable has snapped either. Same as yours by the sound of it.

Just my problem now is finding time to go back down to get him back. Nightmare cost on train and petrol back Sad

Well, Norman made it back to Danbury in less than 24hrs. Great service by the AA.

Danbury contacted me this morning. And I have to say their service has been fantastic.

Problem was in the clutch, and as I feared not covered by the mechanical warranty. Clutches never are. But!

As my van is very new and they have never seen my issue in a new van they have agreed to fix it free of charge even though the warranty doesn't cover it.

They have also agreed to ay for my train down and petrol back, around £130.

I have to say, faultless customer service, and although I am worried that such a new van has developed a clutch problem, I have to thank them for such good customer service.

Sorry, I don't agree with you on this one, my mum's Golf developed a clutch problem in January this year, 1 month before the 3 year Volkswagen mechanical warranty was due to expire. It was fixed under warranty.

However that's great to read, but this kind of customer service should be the rule and not the exception.

Any friction material won't be covered as you could be trying to pull 3 tons and burn it out same with brakes they can get over heated very easy. Nice one Danbury

Thanks Dennis - I assume in the case of mileage v time it's always whichever comes first, which is reasonable.
