2014 Northern Chapter Meet

You'll all know from this Post that I've been camped in Silverdale this weekend at Gibraltar Farm.

Whilst I was there I spoke to the steward about the possibility of holding the 2014 Northern Chapter there next June. He told me that they have lots of rallies and he showed me the field they use,which is ideal, enclosed by a stone wall with its own water and rubbish points and overlooking Morecambe Bay.

Silverdale and Arnside are in a beautiful part of the world (as a Tyke it hurts to say so).

The site is mentioned in the Cool Camping book.

There are plus points and minuses to the site:

Pluses

Beautiful area
Easily accessible off the M6 (about 7 miles from J35)
Great walks close to the site
Possibility to get the train across the estuary to Grange over Sands
Amazing sunsets (assuming the sun has been shining)
A pub wihitn walking distance (albeit not as good as Appletreewick, but they do keep a decent pint)
A great gallery and cafe close by.
Home made Ice cream on sale on the site

Minuses

No fires (although they allow bbq's)
No electricty in our field (if this is a show stopper then let me know - I'm sure we can survive for a weekend especially if some people have generators and could help with phone charging, etc. Mrs B will have to have her hair cut first...)
They say no music after 11 but I had a chat and the steward said that as long as we were sensible they wouldn't have a problem wth us chatting until midnight - I don't think this would be an issue at all. It's not the Kombicabana at the Northern Meet.
The main site gets very busy but having our own field means we shouldn't be overrun with the tribes of kids running about in the sunshine this weekend. For anyone with children (Noth Poles?) there would be plenty of friends to make and grass to run around on.
We'd need to book soon as they get lots of enquiries a year ahead.

For me it ticks lots of boxes - it means we leave Yorkshire and gives those attending a reason to visit an area they'd rarely go to. Most people miss it as they drive up to J36 for the Lakes.

If you've already shown an interest in next year's event could you comment to let me know if you're happy for me to speak to the site and provsionally book please?

I've sent a pm to Lilyvdub, Skytiger, osg, NorthPoles & Retrorunaways to check that they're ok with this venue.

If the consensus is yes, then I'll ring the site later this week.

I've just heard back from Gibraltar Farm -they've pencilled us in for next year - Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd June 2014. I've told them I'll firm up numbers next year.

Looks like we've got a venue, just have to sort out Red Rose Passports for all you fellow Tykes.

Seriously speaking that job has been eating me alive for over a year now. One of these days I will have to throw the towel. I did for today anyway and decided to catch up with what's going on the Forum instead of checking some boring reports.

Really looking forward to seeing you all!   I also put in our calendar (just in case) the 5th of April for the Eskdale event.
