Kombi Kaper Summer 2017 - Ile de Re - 5th Aug to 19/20 Aug

"Not having to unpack" sounds good to me (as the four of us will not fit in Louie without !)

Last time at Ile de Re we stopped off at a hotel at Rennes to break the journey to Caen. It was only about £40 per night for bed and breakfast, and worked well for us. Having said that, it was in a fairly quiet area with a car park where we felt secure about leaving the loaded van overnight. That's quite important.

I've spent some time looking at options for the overnight stay. The campsites near to Saint Malo that are currently taking online bookings will not allow a one night option. The municipal site probably will but they are currently closed for the winter.
The option finding a hotel with secure parking does seem appealing particularly as it means no unpacking!
I've found something that looks like it would fit the bill -

Campanile Saint Malo

It's 5 miles from the ferry port and has secure parking. There are breakfast options and a restaurant.
Trip advisor reviews are good and there is a picture of the parking which is outside the rooms (motel style).
All rooms are for 2 guests and the best price of £53 seems to be through hotels.com. I've used them before with no problems.
Have any forum members used this hotel before?
What do we think?

Thank you for looking into this Harry H, it sounds ideal.  We have now changed our ferry booking to return on the Sunday sailing so will be needing a Saturday night stopover.

Thank you for the feedback. I've had another look today and this is definitely the best option for those that want a good value hotel stopover. It also means we could catch a bus into St Malo in the evening for some dinner and a glass or two if we wanted.
I asked for a group rate but they couldn't do it for this hotel so the best way to proceed is for individuals to book directly via hotels.com. Of course, if you'd rather look for a campsite or aire that wouldn't be a problem.
Maybe once you've booked you could post a message and the details could be added to the first post. Would that be ok Abs?

I've booked the Campanile Saint-Malo - Saint-Jouan-Des-Guerets, via Booking.com. for Sat 19th Aug 17, at a cost 62.30 Euros inc 10% tax, with free parking and wifi.

I've edited the stopover list on the first post.

I've just done the same. They have 51 rooms but it's not possible to check how many remain.

This was the campsite we stayed at for 1 night.

Think they are closed at mo tho.

Thank you Als. I checked that one out but because it is currently closed I didn't get very far. I felt it was better to find something we could book now rather than wait until next year.

We're booked into the Campanile for the 19th thanks.

We had a lovely lunch at that restaurant.

It was a fab restaurant, I think La Flotte might be my favourite village on the island.

Maybe we should have a bike ride there and have lunch one day.
