Has anyone heard the news? Is it true! VW to stop production on the T2 Brazil at the end of 2013?

In a word Ian - no.

Regardless of their oncoming rarity, I don't think buyers will be prepared to pay over the top prices. Once they're all sold though, it should just mean the prices hold rather than drop.

That last Aircooled has been on the market for years and personally I feel it should have been left unconverted, true to how it left the factory.

I had a look at both Volksworld and Camper & Bus websites and Facebook pages this morning. NOTHING whatsoever about the forthcoming demise of our beloved T2.

Why am I not surprised at this?

May be a little late now but 'End of the Bay' has just appeared as a two-thirds page entry in the new copy of Volksworld (p12, January 2012 issue).

So we know about it in October and it hits the VW press in their January edition. I rest my case.

So, with the VW now not being built anymore, what affect will it have on the depreciation of the vehicle?

With a whole year of production still to go I doubt there will much if any affect on 2nd hand prices, but maybe in 18 months well looked after Kombis might be worth a little more or at least depreciate a little less.

That said, you might find the price of a new one increases slightly as demand begins to exceed supply. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Two pages on this topic under the title 'Closing time....' in the latest (January 2013) issue of MMM (Motorcaravan Motorhome Monthly). But it still says '...absence of any official word from VW on this end of an era'

Whatever the outcome, I don't think it will be the last time a 'new' kombi will be seen.

If you compare it with the classic mini, it is still possible to build a complete one, at a cost, from new parts. The tooling obtained from Pressed Steel Fisher still produce complete bodyshells, and the parts are still being produced as far flung as South Africa and Australia.

From the interest shown in Dizzy when we are out and about, by Chinese tourists who love them, (one time we had  whole coachload swarming round with cameras on auto-wind) I wouldn't put it past them to start producing them over there.

Rumours are out there that it might not  . . . sssshhhh  

Rumours are that a bloke in the surrey area has got hold of the jigs and tools to put in his garage, production of some very shiny buses could start very soon...............

How many Air-cooled and Water-cooled Brazilian Bays are now running around in the UK?

I would be interested to know, but so also would anyone considering the future market for supply of parts, services or other support.
Perhaps this calculation has already been done.
But as a starting point, please, Jason are you able to tell us the totals for imports of Danbury conversions?
