| Hello All,
My chrome hubcaps are very rusty and need replaced. Not sure whether to replace them (cant find suitable replacement online) or go for some alloys. Has anyone seen any nice alloys they would recommend (and do I need to buy new tyres if I get them - suspect this is a dumb question!)?

| Yes you need to buy new tyres for alloys.
I suggest you look in our gallery to see all the different types of alloys available and how the look on BraziBays. The Danbury website gallery is also good for this.
Wheel and tyre packages are available from Midland Wheels, VW Heritage and Just Kampers.
Or you could just get your hubcaps rechromed in triple chrome which should last a long time. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay

| If you go for alloys make sure you get the right stud pattern. They need to be 5/112. (5 studs on a 112 PCD) ________________________________________________________________________________ Ginger man without a ginger van | |

| Thanks Tim, the hubcaps are too far gone for rechroming - am too embarassed to post a pic, suspect you would kick me off the forum as they look awful!
Looks like it would be easy to spend some serious money on alloys, thanks for 5/112 tip Kiteman.

| If your BraziBay isn't lowered and you go for 15" alloys, I recommend fitting 185/65/15 tyres as these are slightly taller and will fill the wheel arch better, thereby giving the impression that the camper is lower. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |

| Thanks for this Tim. I suspect may lower the van at some point - would need a good few cans of Irn Bru to measure how high it is off the ground!
I asked Danbury about their triple chrome hubcaps - cost £330, so am going to wait before deciding what to get. Hopefully an ebay bargain will come up at some point.

| I'm sorry to say that the standard of chrome items supplied by VW outlets are awful quality, I was going down the hubcap route but you need good old caps orhave the new ones re chromed (cheaper than Danbury). In the end I was seduced by the low side the guys at T2d do a special SLAMTEMBER deal cost me £1600 for wheels tyres slam and as much coffee as I could drink (I did buy the biscuits)but do look. As Tim says there are lots of different wheel styles you could always keep the rusty caps you maybe the first ratty brazi bay go on post a pic | |

| The ones I bought were "genuine vw" however they came from brazil before I fitted them they were given a lick of waxoyl on the inside (always a good idea) and as I applied a coat of polish to the outside a strip of chrome came off in the cloth needless to say they went back and I fitted the originals. If they are blasted well there is no reason why they couldn't be re chromed or you could pass them to me mmmmmm ratty brazi sounds good to me Tim | |
