Hi Kiteman We have just spend four enjoyable nights at Laneside Caravan Park. We had a grass pitch but with electric. This was Sunday - Wednesday and quite a few pitches and statics were empty - not sure how busy it is at weekends.

This is just a few minutes walk from Hope village. Then Hope to Castleton is another two miles and there is a footpath across the field if you can find it. Going through Hope, turn left down the road at Woodroffe Arms, cross the bridge over the stream and go up the hill. The footpath starts on the right well up this road (look out for bench seats nearby) - but the campsite map and a local map both indicated that it started lower down.
In Castleton we visited Peak Cavern (includes rope-making demo) and Treak cavern but there is also choice of Speedwell (includes a boat) and Blue John.
The website has a very informative local map for download.

I would also recommend a trip out to Chatsworth house
The Caravan Club site at Chatsworth is excellent - a stay there also includes a key to a gate leading directly into Chatsworth grounds. About a twenty minute walk up to the house and gardens.

Kiteman Hope that the presence of the Tour de France stage in the Peak District at the weekend does'nt make it difficult to book a pitch Are you there to see the race? osg

If you are a member of camping & caravan club the I recommend the hayfield site. Tents and motor homes only and loads of good (energetic) walks if that's your thing. Especially good route to walk up kinder scout.

Just back from the Peak District. Stayed in a C&CC in Crowden in the north of the area. Beautiful spot, fab facilities, even had a drying room. Then stayed at New House Farm near Kniveton - received a fabulously warm welcome in a higgledy-piggeldy farmyard and were directed to one any one of three fields. We chose the top field complete with sheep and geese and a view over the dales to die for. The only facility was an eco-loo in a canvas clearing in the nearby woods. Two great sites, albeit very different.
