Reconditioned Aircooled Gearbox £699

VW Heritage have this available on their eBay account:

Am interested in this - as garage have warned that my gearbox won't have too long left in it. Does anyone know if VW heritage recondition with german parts? Has anyone bought from them and recommend it?

I phoned VW heritage and the guy on phone thought that it would be reconditioned with brazilian parts. So don't think I will buy it.

I suggest that requires further investigation.

Ive tried further investigation but no success - online help said this "It would be impossible to say what parts have been used to rebuild this gearbox, whatever available at the time to rebuild and enhance the gearbox would've been used. The gearbox rebuilder we had building the boxes is now retired so we wouldn't be able to confirm. Sorry about this."

So I guess better leave it.

Given that completely ambiguous response I'd make them an offer ... how else would they expect to sell it?!

Good idea! I think am just going to leave it though - would rather get a good box which will last - cos will no doubt be expensive to swap with current box.

What's wrong with your current gearbox @gordonmac?

@gordonmac I could rebuild your gearbox if you want. I have all the tooling and parts.

My gears are very notchy - I can drive it but can't let anyone else drive as think would cos problems. Garage said was noisy and getting towards end of useful life.

You've put semi synthetic gear oil in I take it?

I think so - maybe!! Am trying to find the old forum post on kind to get, but can't find it. When I first drive van, gear change nicely then after about half hour it gets really sticky.

Semi synthetic gearbox oil will sort that mate.

New gearbox oil does seem to have made gearchanges much better - glad I didn't buy that gearbox!!
