Hi we've just returned from an interesting trip to the Channel Islands. This was a bit of different trip as although we took the van we were staying in a hotel on each island.
Guernsey. Fab. We'd love to go back again and explore more. Very easy on the van and a doddle to park up and get to the empty and I mean empty beaches. Although we chose to stay in a hotel there are a few campsites available. In terms of location anywhere is good as everywhere is only 20 minutes drive away.
Jersey. Not so good. All the beaches are hard to get to, usually down hairpin roads. Bit like Porlock Hill for most of the access. Traffic is busy and brusque. Decided the brakes and clutch were worth preserving so we took the public bus! A lot of sight seeing coach traffic to watch out for as well as HGV wagons.
Ferry. Condor. <50% rating. Four hours late leaving Poole. On time leaving Guernsey on Sunday then last Thursday afternoon crossing cancelled. Tour company could only get an overnight sailing on the Friday night to get us back to Portsmouth Saturday morning.
A bit of an adventure. Almost a nightmare return. Guernsey was the highlight.

That sounds really interesting. I think I’ll research guernsey a bit more. Did you go and look at any of the campsites?

We didn't find time to check-out the campsites as we only had 3 days and concentrated on enjoying the beaches and the scenery.

I may be a bit biased but Jersey is the best, lived there for 18yrs, bought our van there and lived with and in it all over the island. It is a user friendly place, it is polite and the beaches are so so easy to get to. Sorry you had a bad experience

There's always the Isle of Wight... Ferry crossing.... beaches, and not too many hairpin bends.
Bewarned the island doesn't like bridges, so expect a lot of doubling back on yourself.
