Heater Project Empty
PostSubject: Heater Project   Heater Project EmptyMon Dec 27, 2010 4:38 pm

Finally made a decent start on the heating vents.

Started by building a frame to fit the ducting. Goint to have 2x80mm ducts going into two Y pieces one will do the windscreen vents, the other the side dash vents.
The frame will fit over the back half of the heater.

Will keep you all updated on the progress

Good stuff. Did you make 4 cuts into the ends of the ducts to fit them to your wooden frame?

Can't wait to see more Very Happy

Yep. Just squared the ends up and cut 4 slits to fix them to the frame.

Next bit is to fix some sort of baffle so I can get a servo to direct the air flow.

Had another play in the garage today.

First bit is for the side dash vents.
Cut the baffle to fit in the Y piece, this is to stop the airflow if needed.

Heater Project Sl270013

Fitted the servo to the housing this will then push a lever to close the baffle.

Heater Project Sl270014

Will do the same for the dash window vents, so I will be able to have airflow to either, both or none.

Well it's all gone a bit Pete Tong. Sad

Have had to go for a total design change, there's not enough room to fit the two sets of ducts as my under dash tray is in the way. Crying or Very sad

Only way to do it now is to just get the front screen vents working.

Got some 75mm, 80mm and 90mm ducting for sale if anybody needs some.

Looking at fitting one of these

Link

Going to put an 100 - 80mm adapter then an 80mm Y piece with two 50mm ducts going to the font dash vents, will put a damper in there to control the airflow.

Might even get a couple of these

Link

to angle the airflow towards the passenger.

OK here we go with Mark 2

Ended up getting the 204mm elbow bend with the 100mm connector as the width of the heater box is 160mm.

Cut this down and reshaped it so it now fits over the heater box.

Heater Project Imag0210

Heater Project Imag0211

Heater Project Imag0210

Need to smooth it all down and paint it before it gets fitted properly.

Underneath is going to go a 110mm elbow to blast hot air towards the passanger seat.

Hey Kiteman
Here is our approach to heat in the back - crude & simple we know - but it works for us at present!
(please ignore the dust & dirt - needs a bit of clean inside - perhaps when it is warmer and the cab mat is fitted)
All the best with your continued endeavours which we shall watch with interest

More tinkering in the garage today.

Ducting for the passenger fitted now. Bit more fibreglassing to do then can fit the servos and dampers.

Heater Project Imag0211

All the funky stuff like the controller and LCD screen have turned up as well now so can start writing the code to get it all working.

Another productive day.

The main housing is now finished along with the round ducting that will feed the 50mm screen vent ducts. Just need to paint it black and mount the servos.

Heater Project Imag0212

Heater Project Imag0213

The dampers are done, just need final fixing and servo arms added.

The two pieces will fit together like this.

Thanks Irishman, should be done for the summer. Rolling Eyes

Got most of the coding and the display working now.

Heater Project Imag0217

This is going to display the temperature at the top, not sure whether to have inside or outside temp at the moment. and will show what position the dampers are in.

Want to fit it in the main dash console. Should be some room to the right of the speedo dial, will have a chat with Danburs to see if I can get hold of a spare to mess about with.

Just need to wire the whole thing up properly, fit the new dash facia, then it's ready to be properly installed into Ginger.
