| Good work. Like the idea of the vertical sockets as well, nothings going to fall out of them. ________________________________________________________________________________ Ginger man without a ginger van | |

| Nice one peppa and I like the nod to 'marine' seeing that you have an AquaBay. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |

| Hi, does anyone know which fuse powers the plug sockets? I have four plug sockets inside the camper and none of them work! I have never used them before and am just in the process of testing everything before we make our debut trip to Cornwall next week. I have located the fuses under the dash but i'm assuming these are for the indicators etc. There is a main power box in the wardrobe area at the back of the camper. Help!! I have no idea where to start solving this problem. Mine is the old type brazilian, 02 plate. Many thanks. | |

| Valentine, the sockets only work when you are connected up to an electric hook-up on a campsite. ________________________________________________________________________________ Matt. | |

| Glad I found this great 'how to' Tilly. I've had the same trouble with the front cigarette lighter socket as others have elsewhere, and have been toying with fitting a couple of sockets connected to the leisure battery. Not only for similar reasons to yours, but being a 'belt and braces' type, my thinking was that if ever I got a flat battery away from home, I could use one of those 'plug and go' type jump cables that go between cigarette lighters from the donor car to the car with the flat, only in this case the donor would be the leisure battery. Not having used one of these types of leads before, my question is, do they work, and is this plan feasible? | |

| I think the theory is that you leave the two batteries connected for about 15 minutes, and enough power is transferred from the donor to the main battery to give it enough umph to turn the engine on its own, but not having tried one , I'm not sure. There must be something in line that drops the current right down I presume. | |

| Thanks for that, Tilly. That was the thing I was thinking of, I could see you concern over the melting problem, I've managed to melt cheap jump leads before as well! | |

| Had a look at one of those plug and go leads in Maplins last week, it appears that the donor vehicle has to have the engine running and lead plugged in before connecting to recipient, so presumably no good running off leisure battery! Worth a try, but I think I'll forget this one! | |

| I installed a 12v (cigarette lighter) socket at the rear which we use for charging phones etc overnight, also a twin usb socket above the battery meter on the kick panel below the rear seat.
The install was quite straight forward, the 12v socket is attached with two self taping screws, I drilled a small hole in the gas cupboard (Rio layout) for the cable to go through and ran it down inside past the sealed gas compartment and out underneath next to the leisure battery.
The usb socket is set into the kick board so I drilled a large whole the correct size to fit that.
The two sockets were then wired directly to the leisure battery with separate 10A inline fuses. All of the connections were soldered and I soldered spade connectors onto the wires to connect to the battery.
If I get a chance I will take some pictures and add them to the post, but Tallulah is fully loaded at the moment. ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| That's really helpful, thanks - I'm also toying with replacing the battery meter with something a bit more accurate cos I find the original one a bit vague and I thought of adding a panel with 12v sockets and a voltmeter. :-) | |

| Tallulah, you've been very helpful and sorry to bombard you with more questions but my ambition is not matched by my ability so your advice is really appreciated. I've bought a voltmeter which I'm planning to replace the Danbury battery meter with. When I'm on the ehu will that blow the volt meter (6v-30v) or does it step the power down? I'm planning to connect a new USB to the battery the way you suggested too. Thanks in advance
Pete

| The standard Danbury installed meter is just a 12 volt item.

Replacing it with a unit that has a gauge should be no problem. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |
