PS On the way home stopped for fuel at the M5 services just after junction 3 Scooby did not really want to go home - so he would not start! AA arrived within 40mins and it was the starter motor that had packed up Bump started Scooby and drove home without stalling it! Used the A44 route through the Cotswolds No cars and Sun all the way - Cool Drive
give it a smack with a bit of metal bet it was all the rain

AA man gave a few hits with a hammer but Scooby still would not start One or two other things were done but the conclusion was the starter motor had gone Started easily with a 'bump'

Been there done that! Max treated me to this particular event in my early days of ownership. All you need is a 1600 Beetle gearbox starter like this one here.
Order it tonight and you'll get free delivery as JK are apologising for not being at CJ. Don't forget our club discount too. Use voucher code MUD

Super weekend! Well done everyone who joined in with cake and shots and super costumes, and particularly to DJ Tim for the excellent tunes. Steve made up for all the cheesy chart pop by playing head splitting screechy stuff for four hours on the drive back. I'm hitching with one of you lot next year
The Kitedogs slept all the way home, fame is exhausting I guess. Alfie's getting to work on some prop tricks for next year, and Trixie's aiming to be even more vintage.

Great weekend had by all, despite the weather, ground conditions and getting to know the paramedics again!
We made it out without a problem and stopped for lunch and some 'go-go' juice at M5 services, spotted Andhoops on their way out and, like Scooby, we headed down through the Cotswolds to avoid Silverstone traffic to the North and Fairford airshow to the South.
A slightly longer, but very enjoyable cruise home.
Oli has continued his theme of being bright as a button during the day and having a raging temperature at night - up to 39.7C again last night but we have more control over conditions in his room so he slept much better, as did we!
Many thanks to NorthPoles, the Neurofen takes affect much quicker and has really helped.
Great buns, great vodka shots, great friends, great time!
Pics to follow once I've had a chance to look through them, lots of cleaning, jetway hung and drying out to do first!
We'll be there next year providing the paramedics haven't blacklisted us!

Having waved everyone goodbye, we took our time clearing up - drying out the canopy and utility tent and generally enjoying the afternoon sunshine before setting sail. By the time we left we could drive straight across all the pitches to the road.
Great to see everyone again, and thanks Tim for the event tent and the disco, Marcus for the beads (?), Penny for the fab buns, and various people for alcohol that did me no good whatsoever!
Photos to follow...
I've just got to hose the mud off Roobarb and take the leaking wellies back to B&Q!

Sorry to hear about the no-start on the way home Scooby. I've pictures of Sharon bump starting him and jumping in through the sliding door!
I had starting problems at one stage which I traced to corrosion of the starter motor and solenoid terminals - I suspect the German T2 has rubber boots covering the terminals to keep the rain (and mud) out. A careful strip and clean of these, plus the braided earthing strap and all was fine. However, I'd expect the AA man to have checked this for you.
Scooby is getting temperamental in his old age - ditch the AA and get Daz to follow you everywhere!

Hi Scooby we had the same type of problem few years ago with our 72 T2, starter just stopped got a new one from GSF but few months later happen again and it turned out to be dodgy ignition switch.

Sorry for not being able to make it on Saturday guys and gals, we were going to pop in for the day, but we didn't get back from a week in Cornwall until late evening Friday, and Dizzy had developed a niggling noise when engaging reverse. On closer examination I'm hoping its the rear brakes binding due to lack of lube on the linkage.
Hope to get out and have a proper look when it stops raining!
Looks like we missed a good time despite the mud, we had about three days decent weather, and hope to post some pics to cheer you up.
