| Can anyone tell me the difference between the khyam motordome plus and the khyam motordome plus 780?
Does anyone have these and recommend them?
What strength are the poles in high winds?

| We've got a Motordome Sleeper - Click here:C13MPR and go to June 12 (Cotherstone) for a video of our first time putting it up.
We've not had any issues with high winds but we attach it with a pole and clamps and not via the figure of 8 fastening.

What strength are the poles in high winds? The dome is the same on both models. Basically the difference is in the tunnels. The 780 has 7.8 metres of material and the ordinary plus has 6.9 metres from one end to the other (ground to ground). The 780 is more for high top vehicles. For the BraziBay, you only really need the Sleeper Plus and so can save a bit of money.

| What a good explanation, Chris. I think ours is a Sleeper Plus. ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| Don't know if you are new to all this but I was last year so a few things I have found out
Make sure you have the correct pegs - I went to a site that had stones underfoot (think they call it hard standing) and there is no way you can use the standard pegs that come with the awning. They are fine on grass pitches.
As Absinthe says use the pole and clamps fixing. I have found it easier to get the van in place then attach the awning to the van rather than inch back and forward hundred of times to get in the correct position.
Also be aware that when you open the sliding door you have not put the awning too far forward or it can tear a hole in the material. No one tells you exactly where you should attach on the van so it's a bit of trial and error but where you think you have it correct open the sliding door slowly and watch the top left of the door.
Try to avoid putting the awning up first time in strong wind - a recipe for divorce proceedings
We found after the first use in heavy rain that there was a slight leak and had to use some seam sealant that comes with the awning. It was where the awning fixes onto the rail of the van. Really easy fix and stopped the leak

| We too have a Kyham Sleeper and can offer the following: When we first put it up we used Fabseal on all the seams for extra protection. The pole and clamp method of fixing to the gutter is the best method in our opinion. We use some insulating foam on the edge of the sliding door to try and prevent any damage to the tunnel material. Only down side to the Kyham is that they can take a little time to fully peg out - up to 30 to 40 mins in our experience. Other than that they are great. Another reason why I went for the Thule towbar rack system. | |

Yes, agreed. The first time I pitched mine in the rain I was grateful I could get the dome up by myself in under 15 mins. I then finished pegging out when it had stopped.

No but if you choose to get a pole and clamp fixing to attach the awning to your Kombi, then as Dennis suggests, the roof rack bars will get in the way. If you want to keep the roof rack on then go for the figure of 8 fixing but buy bulking strip to increase the grip of the figure 8 on the gutter. | Thank you. Is the pole and clamp a complete no no due to the roof rack or is there a way around it????

Is the pole and clamp a complete no no due to the roof rack or is there a way around it???? No it's not. It is possible, if the rack is far enough forward, to put the pole and clamp on, depending on the type of rack. It might however mean you have more poke sticking out the back end though, which in itself isn't a disaster and you can always shorten the pole. (What happens is the back feet of the rack go where the front clamp / pole needs to be) Caveat: it's been a while since I looked into this and there are different types of rack. I don't know how your rack is fitted and how much space you have in your gutter rail ahead of the sliding door/front door post.

| There are a few on here that have roof racks and use the pole and clamp method Have a little read HEREIf you can I would say go for the pole and clamp method if you can. I've tryed both ways and the pole and clamp is so much easier and quicker ________________________________________________________________________________ Ginger man without a ginger van | |

| We have a rack and use the pole and clamp. I shortened it to stop it sticking out at the back and it works very well. ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

Our roof rack is the same as yours Which is your awning? We have the Kyham Sleeper as shown in the following garden pics. Please note that it is not fully pegged out in the pics above. We use the pole and clamp connection for our Khyam Sleeper without problem The pole we use "just fits" at the end of the gutter and the rear of the rack We know others have had a problem in the past Think we have previously suggested a pole from these guys to save cutting down a longer pole: Pole & Clamp We only got three clamps - our pole may also be shorter? They may have changed the design since Hope this helps Roo b Roo ________________________________________________________________________________ Proud winners of Spike's Trophy 2017 Scooby - Born To Run
