Subject: Advice about buying first Brazilian Bay please Wed Mar 04, 2015 4:40 pm
Hello we are looking for advice about the best places to find a Brazilian bay - it needs to be in good condition and low-ish mileage and could spend up to about 30k. We assume we can get one less than 5 yrs for this amount. We would be ready to purchase at the end of the month - we know nothing about the mechanical side so would we be better buying from a company? We have visited VW Kampers in Sussex today and saw some options but just wanted to know anywhere we can look apart from this forum!

Good luck with your search and good to see you've had a look at what VWK have on offer. Danbury do have a range of second hand vehicles so you could have a look on their website but also give them a call to see what they haven't listed online. Snail Trail have some used vehicles on their website too.
Am sure others will be along shortly with more recommendations....
Hope you find what you're looking for and look forward to seeing you out and about in due course...

Hi Newbienewton Hello and welcome to the forum - you are in a good place Good Luck with your search I'm positive you will get a great camper with that budget Did you drive a camper whilst you were at VWK I suggest you compile a wish list for everything you would would like in a camper You could try Danbury and have a look on ebay Also at times there are people selling privately on the forum - not sure if there are any at the moment

Hi and welcome. Marcus is right - you would be wise to make a wish list of everything you desire and then source the vehicle that comes closest. Remember though that you can modify as you please. You only need to spend some time on here to see what members have done to theirs. It does seem to be more and more difficult to find a BraziBay on any of the auction sites. Traders are very active in their search for new stock. Why not pay a visit to the BraziBay stand at Volksworld later this month. We love talking to future owners.

Hi there, welcome to brazilianvwbay.com - you're in the right place if you're keen on getting a BraziBay!
Just to back up what has been said so far ....
The market for used Kombis is small, even traders will tell you that they struggle to find stock at times, and when they do, if it's good and priced well, they sell very quickly.
The campervan season is about to kick in so there will be owners who have been holding off selling until the sun shines, as in theory that helps to get a better price. So keep an eye on our classifieds, Autotrader, eBay, Gumtree and Pistonheads. Also check the classified ads of Camper & Bus, Volksworld, and Volkswagen Camper.
Have a look at my guide to buying a used Brazilian VW Bay by clicking this link:
If you don't feel comfortable buying privately then a dealer is the best option for you. You'll pay more in the same way you would as if buying a used car, but your Kombi will have been checked over by folks who know them, valeted, serviced, MOT'd and warranted for a period.
Any help, just ask away!

Thank you all for the words of welcome and advice - have now checked out Danbury & Snail Trail. Fleetingly thought of getting a new one done from scratch but the £33k seems to go up rapidly when you add the roof and other bits and pieces that we have seen on slightly older vans. We will definitely make a wish list and try to be patient until the right one comes up. I had already printed off the What to look out for when buying - it looks very useful - thank you. Volksworld looks great - we'll see if we can get tickets. Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum
I did very similar to you looked at Danbury with the new ones and found the price quickly ramped up in our case to nearly £50K!! we were incredibly lucky that one which had everything we wanted came up as pre loved on Danbury's site as a trade in, it does take a few months but they are out there and they turn up eventually main thing is like any car purchase don't just buy one in a rush if you are not certain about it, but as Tim says once you find a good one they do go quickly you only need to look at the turn over on the VWK website
Good luck with the search and you have certainly found the best place on the web for information and helpful people, Tim is also a BraziBay bloodhound when it comes to classified ads so you tend to find the links in the forum to Bays for sale elsewhere and sometimes owners on here, people also tend to know some of the vans for sale as a sort of brazibay HPI check on past history
Hopefully see you with your new family member soon
