Read how to put a picture of Dennis but every picture I have is too big what is the best way to reduce a picture for the avitar. thanks  Tim

If you've a printer or scanner, chances are they've come with a programme that allows photo editing. Use that to reduce the size of your photo.

Failing that download a freebie photo editor from the interweb.
