Funny, my post disappeared, big brother must have not liked it.
I didn't get it .... so thought others would think the same. What was the connection?
Don't forget to credit the photo source if you post one up too please? Ta.
Hi, Tim and the Gang
I should have explained that straight after brabay's post, sorry! But as the explanation is a bit long and complicated I never had time to do this yesterday.
Anyway, here it comes ( and apologies in advance for a longish post):
Brabay posted yesterday a black and white photo of nice looking soldier girl from an old war movie.
Here’s the connection: Back in late 60s there was a Polish TV series called “Four tank-men and a dog” (how can’t you laugh at that ;-) repeated over and over again in years to come. Actually full of Soviet propaganda but it was absolutely loved by kids and it is sort of iconic thing. It was about wartime adventures of…well, four tank-men and their dog (yeah, I know…) The sixth character was Rudy 102 but it is not (as probably brabay thought) that pretty girl from the photo. It’s a Soviet tank!!!
So anybody Polish hearing that we called our van "Rudy" reflects straight away “Rudy 102, the tank”! Are you nuts??”
Here’s the link to Wikipedia if you want to see how the tank in question looks like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-34 There are some similarities perhaps….
We were really impressed that somebody foud that connection. We just couldn’t stop laughing when we saw that photo yesterday.
Many thanks!
brabay

well let me explain, the picture was of Marusia "Ogoniok" - from russian "redhead" - as her character was ginger - The Rudy 102 was named in honour of the above lady.

Brabay – now you impressed me again! Seriously! I underestimated you…my apologies.
True, but unfortunately in popular culture the memory of Rudy the Tank has survived better than Marusia (especially that the movie was black and white ha ha ha ;-)) I completely forgot that fact - thank you for highlighting that. To get to the point – if in Polish you call something big, metal and on wheels ”Rudy” the first thing that springs to mind is The Tank 102… If it is a ginger girl it is " Ruda"
