| just a thought ,i think where ever you go in this area,it will have walkers etc so i think they will all expect some form of restriction on the noise level,we wont have the kombikabana shelter so,no probs there,as for the open fires not sure on that one here ,will have to wait and see |

| Great! I hope the weather will match the heatwave we had at that very weekend last year And if not we will have a bonfire, sausages and hot soup to welcome autumn in style Not to mention Uncle Joe's vodka... Rukins does not have electric hook ups either but we will have plenty of above to keep us warm | |

Let's agree on 28/29/30 September, then we've got plenty of time to organise everything.
I'm going to make a corporate decision and say we should go for the site at Keld which allows campfires - that way if it's starting to get cool at night we can all sit around it and keep warm.
Geoff (Dalesman) - is there any chance you coudl pop up there and see if they can accomodate us on those dates?
Yes I'm happy to drive over on Saturday and check them out and see if they will make an exception to their 'no booking' policy especially with the prospect of up to 10 vans turning up. ________________________________________________________________________________ "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave"

Great news! Many thanks! We would go ourselves but Rudi is booked already in the garage on Saturday for a leisure battery replacement. Could you tell them we are all extremely quiet, nature loving bunch of people! No threat to any walkers/families camping nearby.... And have a look at that spot next to the river | |

| Technically possible to make this and I've never driven that far north, so would be up for the adventure. Big but though is I might have started a school placement and all that that will entail (effectively ruling out fun on any w/e!). Either way, I have put this in my diary and hope I can join in the (quiet) festivities. | |

| Sorry Scooby cannot make the selected date due to a prior engagement Hope the weather will be kind to you and please take lots of pics Rooby Roo PS Dennis it is around 300miles from us and would take around 6 hours in current traffic according to Google Maps! (would obviously need to add a bit to that for a Kombi) ________________________________________________________________________________ Proud winners of Spike's Trophy 2017 Scooby - Born To Run | |

| The campsite at Keld - Rukins Park Lodge - is suffering with the weather and the camping fields are very "soft" They are not prepared to commit to a booking this far out from the end of September. Incidentally the field they use for campervans is not the one by the river but one further up the lane out of the village which although it has good views did look to be on a bit of a hillside. The best they could suggest was that we contact them again towards the end of August. What was it like when you were there in May Northpoles? The campsite at Muker looks a better bet - it's level and has direct access from the road. It's not massive but would easily cope with 10-15 vans and awnings. It is also adjacent to a nice stream and within easy staggering distance of the Farmers Arms (that's a pub) Check it out at: www.ushagap.btinternet.co.uk. It's £12/night for a campervan and they would reserve us space if we wanted to make a booking. This is the end of the campsite but it does stretch away along the road - and although its the main road up Swaledale the traffic is quite light that far up the dale. **edit web address corrected - thanks Roobarb ________________________________________________________________________________ "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave"

| Good work Dalesman. For anyone looking, the website for Muker (Usha Gap) has a "." rather than an "@" in the URL. From looking on Google street map, I think you took your photo from the road bridge over the stream? It takes a bit of finding because Google cruelly photographed the area in winter so there aren't any tents or caravans to home in on! As you say, it's a long narrow field, and it's out in the middle of nowhere, so if we commandeered the far end of the field we'd struggle to upset anyone. That's not a challenge. | |

| I've been past that Muker site loads of times and walked past on the C2C. Looks fine to me although I wonder if they allow campfires.
Personally, I'd rather we booked ahead rather than relying on leaving it until closer to the time, but, hey, that's me all over. I'm a bit anal about stuff like that.
Geoff - thanks for checking them out.
What's the consensus? Should we make a provisional booking for Muker and firm numbers up later?
