| Here's the pack I bought:
Ebay auction
You can get the Breathalyser kits from the same seller too. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay

| Don't forget for continental travel you must have:
A spare bulb kit A warning triangle Hi-viz vests for everyone on-board 2x breathalysers (France) GB sticker
In France also, you must not have radar detecting equipment ie turn off your speed camera alerts on your SatNav.

| To add to Tims list You have to also have a first aid kit and a working pump both are legal requirements in France and the Benelux
Below are few other things that will make life easier as well:
The most important thing is a smile - you will undoubtedly commit minor traffic offences- a smile and the ability to say sorry in French (desole) will go kilometres
If you are using autoroutes with tolls ( peages) carry either a visa or master card not a visa debit as some toll stations have become fully automatic at certain times - Bordeaux seems to be at rush hour this year among others
One essential that is often forgot is drivers license - you need both the paper and plastic versions on the continent
Officially you should only take the paper version but as no other euro country uses a paper one much confusion is saved if you carry both
You should also carry at least a copy of your log book
This might sound stupid but you need to have your passport available at all times - as almost every other european country has an ID card system (even as brits we have belgium id cards) which carries all of your information in a chip - and no it is not big brother - having your blood group at all times saves lives - the gendarmerie will ask for I'd even if you give them your drivers license if they stop you for an offence
If you can get one from your insurance company also carrying a green card is easier than carrying full papers as this outlines you cover and the countries your are covered for in multiple languages whereas many insurance policy documents seem to be only in English in this essential part

| Weather is lovely at present sitting drinking Rioja in campsite bar at Laredo about 25 km from Santander and other than a few bits of rain have had fairly decent weather for the last two weeks through France and into Spain
Even got a top up sun tan
I guess that's why we don't actually live in the uk anymore -weather sucks

| We are just back from 2 weeks touring in France - got down as far as Arcahon west of Bordeaux to enjoy some brief hot sunshine. We took all the kit - reflective jackets, triangles, breathalysers etc (and didn't need any of them)- but forgot to take a fog horn to prevent someone reversing into us in a car park! Don't let the rules and regs put you off - driving in France is a pleasure and even the motorway services do decent coffee. | |
