| I've tinkered with Max's look ... again. Back in the '70s a load of folks in California de-chromed their Volkswagens for a simpler look - the Cal-Look. Seeing as a Kombi comes with no chrome and the trend is to 'chrome-up' I decided to go the other way: Black mirrors, original plastic headlamp rings painted satin black, original black vinyl spare cover now wearing a new white VW roundel. No chrome!! ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |

| I'm with the others. It's not a proper cal-look if it isn't lowered. ________________________________________________________________________________ Ginger man without a ginger van | |

| Nice...I hadn't realised Max had not been lowered, I prefer to look out over the hedgerows too and you don't get many in California so it doesn't matter out there and I reckon you should stay above the rest here in Blighty! I would like to change the wheels on Olive soon and like yours - what spec are they and do they fit straight on without adjustment? | |

| The VW logo on the wheel cover looks great - worth all the effort | |

| daz, ST, manokite - I hear what you're saying but there's a number of factors that prevent me from lowering my BraziBay: 1. Money - if I lower Max I want it done via adjusters so the height can be returned at any time - this is a lot more money than just a regular drop. 2. I do like to ride high and see further ahead, over stuff etc. 3. I don't like the idea of grounding out on sleeping policeman, of which there are masses around where I live and I prefer to have the height advantage when going across grassy areas. 4. There are other things I want to do to my camper before I splash out on the suspension. 5. It's interesting that Bileos didn't realise that Max WASN'T lowered. I specifically went for 185/65/15 tyres because they fill the arch more, thereby giving the impression of being lower. Bileos - Max's alloys are from Midland Wheels and are a straight fit 5.5x15" Foosh (Porsche Fuchs replicas) with 5 x 112 PCD. Remember to order locking wheel nuts too if you go for some. www.midlandwheels.com Cheers Mickar - your were privy to the transformation process - I've come up with an inexpensive way to fix a VW roundel to the vinyl cover, I'll detail this elsewhere. JLS - if everyone liked everything it would be a boring world! Black bumpers would involve a lot more money - all this cost me was the 2 mirrors at £10 each, the white roundel £8 and a spray can of satin black. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |

| Tim, my current wheels are standard Danbury fit 185x14, not very clued up on tyre widths etc but does the 15 mean wider, and if so does it effect steering? I am quite happy at present and although she takes a bit of effort parking I am used to it but I would prefer to have alloys as they give it that sporty look. | |

| The 14 or 15 refers to the diameter of the wheel so effectively my alloys are taller vertically. Yesterday I drove Mickar's standard AquaBay and actually think it felt heavier than my Airbus on alloys. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |

| Thanks Tim, definitely next on the shopping list when funds allow! I think this is why I thought yours had been lowered as you see a little less of the rear wheel being taller if that makes sense. | |

Absolutely, that's the illusion I wanted to create. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |
