| Slightly misleading as Carpet Right don't sell mats to go in our Kombis but you'll see......... I've been liasing with Madmatz for a while about a set of their mats. They do have sets for Brazibays but as mine is a LHD they had no template for this layout. They wanted me to make a template for them and then they could make up the mats. It occurred to me that if I was going to the trouble of making my own pattern I might as well try and make the whole thing. I started by laying sheets of thin paper over the cab floor. I then painstakingly cut everything to size until I had an exact paper template of the cab area - a mornings work. I then took a trip to Carpet Right. It's possible to buy lengths of carpet off the roll so I went for a 4m x 2m piece at about £30. It was then a matter of placing the template over the carpet and cutting around with a very sharp blade. I fitted the mat with the help of some carpet tape to keep everything nicely in place and with some left over pieces I made some additional foot mats. I'll get the edges of these whipped to give a better finish. Job done at a 10th of the cost of a shop bought set. | |

| Hi HH nice work with the carpets, do you not need to cut a slot for the brake pedal to travel down ? I think it may catch as you depress the pedal. |

| Hi LVD. I thought that the brake and clutch might catch so I cut a groove for them. I gave it a test drive and all was fine. New rule for Eddie - slippers must be worn in the cab area ! | |

| Really impressive job and great price too. Presumably the template would work for a RHD by flipping over? Only thinking, in case you kept it. | |

| Hi. Just read this post about your carpet adventure (I know it's year old!). I'm about to do something similar myself, but my chosen roll of carpet is not wide enough to do all in one piece - so I need to do it in sections. It looks like yours is one continuous piece from front to back - I plan to get my sections stitched together to achieve this. Any problems associated with ending up with one piece? I only ask because I note that the Newton product is in several pieces, and i wondered if there was a practical reason for this that I haven't anticipated? ________________________________________________________________________________ [img] [/img] | |

| No problems with one piece. Nearly 2 years on and the carpet is still there and looking good (if not a little dirty). I'm sure it'll be fine to stitch 2 pieces together but what's more important is that you get the edges whipped. If you don't they will fray very quickly. All the best with the job. | |

Thanks - yes all geared up for carpet whipping. I thought I would research how much it would be, so I Googled "cost of whipping". Don't do that... ________________________________________________________________________________ [img] [/img] | |

| Hmm, we've got a fair bit of carpet pieces left over from the new ones fitted in the house! Wonder if any are big enough....? | |

| We did the same thing a few years ago when the fridge opened on a corner and the cream splatted all over it. Now matter how much cleaning, it stank of stale cream every time the sun warmed the dub. We took out the old carpet and used that as a template. We paid about £20-30 for a piece so big I have the rest in the loft to do it all again ________________________________________________________________________________ I am an Engineer. | I might have to do this - my mats are getting very dirty already! First - find the leak. Second - replace the mats. Third - wear slippers! thanks HH | |
