| All back home (inc Barney the dog), rested and unpacked - phew! I can honestly say that was the best holiday we've had since owning Eddie. The Ile De Re was a fantastic choice of destination - a truly beautiful island. What made it for us however were the people we were with. We loved the camaraderie between us all and those evenings on the beach watching the sun set were magical. Thank you to everyone for making it special and especially to Tim for all his organisational skills and planning. I'll post some pics later in the week. OK .....who else has opened a bottle of Il De Re wine tonight just to bring back a few memories!

| That was a blast. We had a great time and would like to say thanks to all the other Kaperers for making the two weeks so enjoyable.
There was much talk of next year's Kaper whilst we were away and I'd really like us to set dates and venues as soon as possible. I'll be honest and say that we won't do the Portsmouth to Caen route again as, after a long and tiring drive down to the South Coast, we need longer to recuperate.
The drive down to the island took too long for us and I think in future we'll probably travel independently and meet everyone on site. Similarly, the 4.30 return ferry was never going to work for the Northern contingent and if we're going to attract members from other than the South then that needs to be taken into consideration.
If it was up to me (and there's no reason why it should be!) I'd head back to the same site next year. I'm hard pushed to think what another site would give us that would be better although I also think the site in 2013 was excellent (but not as well placed for beaches and day trips).
Whilst I like the sound of Northern Spain, having had a couple of holidays there in the past, I'm not sure if enough people will be prepared to pay the additional cost of the longer ferry trip. The plus of having 20+ hours for the ferry is that we can all relax, get together in the bar and make it part of the holiday. There would also be less driving once we had landed in Bilbao or Santander.
I'll wait to see as things progress but I really hope next year's trip is one we can support.

Now, back to find time to write a Blog. I completely agree with all that. The practicalities of joining up from the north are completely different. We had a hard day's drive in appalling weather to get to Portsmouth, and an overnight stay in a hotel on our return before continuing our journey home on the Sunday. We will still hope to join next year's trip, but we'll see where the consensus decides to go before deciding our route. It will probably mean not joining the convoy unfortunately. | |

| I think it was great that there wasn't a problem between us throughout the two weeks. Imagine taking ten 1970s vans that distance. There's no way that one of them wouldn't need assistance. ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| In case anyone is interested, this is a site recommended to us when we went to Asturias in 2013.
La Viorna
We also stayed here. The site has its own private beach.
