I had my eye on a buddy box from Madmatz but with a bit of time on my hands (school holidays
) I decided to make one of my own.
First of all I bought a wooden box from B and Q. This was to going to act as the main structure. The one I bought was about £20. I removed the hinges and cut the lid about 1/3 rd of the way across.
Next I made a shelf inside the box to prevent any smaller cups or bottles from falling through.
Next job was to cut the cup holes. These were done using a hole saw. I decided to base the hole diameter on the medium size Costa cup (or Medio as they like to call it) but it would fit larger size cups too.
At this point I added a strip of wood to one end of the base. This was allow for the fact that the floor between the two front seats is on a slope.
Next a couple of coats of red gloss paint.
Finally I glued the cup holder section to the box and added some hinges to the lid together with a small handle.
Here it is in its new home.
If anything it's a little bit wide as it's a tight squeeze to open the box between the seats but I'm pleased with how it turned out and enjoyed making it.
