Yes something like that would do it as long as the screws can't pull through as the kayak is probably heavier than a surf board. Some large washers or similar for the screws to go through on top of the bed board will probably sort that. I will have a play in due course. ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| I have a friend with a classic bay and a kayak. He fitted two roof bars one at front of his elevating roof and one behind. It's a little tricky to get down but standing on seat area in drivers door and sliding door buddy bench we can manage. It needs to be a long kayak. ________________________________________________________________________________ Visit my T2c Blog at http://t2bay.blogspot.co.uk/ | |

We've considered that but neither the wife or I are particularly tall and we'd rather not add to the drag coefficient any more than we have to, hence the shorter kayak that fits inside. ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| The mention of roof bars fitted to elevating roof intrigues me. I'm looking for extra top carrying capacity for longer trips. Can someone give me more detail on where I can get these, how they are fitted and what loading do they add to roof please? | |

Hi Tony, They are just standard bay window roof rack bars. They attach to the guttering. I would think any roof rack which has the right width and the right height to go over the roof. Remember that the Brazil bay has a higher roof (10cm) than the classic bay. Great for carrying large items. See the images below. Its the one of the green bay in the middle. Click to enlarge.

| Well, thanks to Tallulah, I now have to get flashy lights under my raising roof and after a few discussions on the matter, a sub too. The Raspberry Pi powered Eriba self-leveler is not going to happen though | |

I opted for the 'mini heki'. It's slightly bigger then the original Danbury one and a bit higher. Easy enough to fit. btw: I tend to re-seal my roof light each season.

| The Mini Heki's look good but the extra height may cause problems for me when I put my Kombi into the garage. | |

Understood, My van fitted my old garage fine with the mini heki but at the new house it looks like I will need to take off the roof light to get the van in for the winter.

| I used to do the same to get mine in the garage but in the end I adapted the height of the garage door. | |

| The must do's this year, fit clear lenses and also change wheels. Not going to lower but I like Tims wheels that do give a slightly lowered appearance. Can you remind me Tim what wheels you have? I did try to find an earlier thread re wheels where you showed a picture of Max but couldn't find it. I have standard Steel wheels at present. | |

Hey Bileos, thanks for the compliment! Don't forget those all important clear side repeaters too!! Max's current wheels are the JBW Foosh type running on 185/65/15 tyres and that's the crucial bit - don't fit 185/60/15 tyres as the tyrewall is too thin and the wheel looks lost in the arch if the BraziBay is not lowered. If lowered then yes fit 185/60/15s. You can get a set of similar alloys by clicking here. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay

So it looks like she'll still be a member of the family for a bit longer I now have a to do list.
1. Hookup light or buzzer so when I'm connected and the ignition is on I will get some sort of warning so I don't drive off with it connected again
2. Get the bumpers wrapped to stop the stone chips and keep the rust at bay
3. Fit an actuator to the R&R bed so it can be setup with the press of a button
4. Possibly, with a lot of saving, lose the Danbury roof and get the Westy style roof Can cross 1 and 2 off the list To add Edging strip for the guttering. No matter how many times I clean and repaint the edge of the gutter I still get rust spots ________________________________________________________________________________ Ginger man without a ginger van

Danbury offer this mechanism now on their new Transit 'GO' model. Perhaps the route to 'go' for your T2 modification. I have been considering adding a strap behind the seatback which could be left visible when the bed is down. Pulling on the strap to lift the seatback through the first few inches would be excellent as this movement is the only difficulty in returning to the seating position. osg
