Hi Tim Danbury are happy to supply new conversions on a used T5 base. Lots of nearly new Kombis for sale on the Brazilian website. I wonder if new conversions on a nearly new Kombi might be a next step from Danbury. There are also a lot of Beetles, wonder if the time is ripe for some of them to become BeetlesUK osg

@Tim: I would agree - that is the best site to use. And the exchange rate is very good at the moment, between R$5.5-6 to £1. If doing via a company as I think you can possibly also negotiate the equivalent of VAT rebate on export - called ICMS which I think is between 10-15%... Kombis are most plentiful in Sao Paulo.
You can get a kombi 2010-2012 kombi with around 40k KM in the region of R$25-30k - which is around the £6-7k mark. Then get in converted at Victoria motorhomes for between R$35-50k. I have recently visited and the build quality is very good, lead time about 3 months. FULLY customisable. Total looking between £10-15k. Shipping costs which I think is about £1k. Then 30% tax on import to UK (10% for duty and 20% for VAT), which is charged on both the value of vehicle and the shipping/delivery costs.
It is a little risky, very time consuming and complicated however (!) - but I hope to be able to shed more light on this in the coming months.

Hi @eamamar , please let me know if you can get shipping to UK for £1k. I've made some inquiries through freight forwarders in the UK with partners in Brazil and was quoted £2k Ro/Ro or £2500 in Container.
Your calculations on UK taxes are correct. Once the container lands you will factor in Clearance agent costs (very reasonable if you talk to me) plus there will be approximately another £400-£600 to pay to remove the van from the vessel and devan it into a local storage facility from where it can be collected.
Running a Customs clearance business I've had inquiries for both classic and used Kombi's from Brazil but I'm yet to see one arrive for a private UK importer.
One reason being that the Customs agents export charges (despatche) in Brazil seem very high. I've seen quotes from USD 500 to USD 2500 which can easily become a deciding factor in a commercial transaction so any insight you can offer into what happens in Brazil to warrant these charges would be gratefully received.

Thanks @beakyboy for your info Golly - £400-600 to remove the van from the vessel!
Yes, I will provide more details about shipping as I find them. Can't remember where I saw the £1k figures, but it was an estimate not a quote.

If its shipped in a container yes , you have a "shunt and unpack" fee payable to the transporter/unpacker and Terminal handling fees to the shipping line.
If shipped ro/ro only the Terminal handling fees are applicable.
