KOMBI Kaper 2015

It's a cold, wet miserable day today so here's some shots of the Ile de Re from 2012 to remind us all what we've got to look forward to. Enjoy.

I love oysters......and to go with them - a lovely chilled Chablis.

I've changed our return Ferry to fit in with the rest of the gang. It means we'll be late into Portsmouth but we're then driving to a cottage near Lyme Regis.

Could one of the locals give me an idea of how long the drive will be at that time in the evening?

They'll be nothing on the roads Abs. I'd allow a couple of hours.

That's great hh. Step-daughter and get friend will already be there (with Boris) so no need to collect keys, etc.

Just hope there's room to store the trailer.

Usually takes us three and a half hours Brighton to friends near Charmouth, travelling late evening. So two - two and half hours, unless you put your foot down

We headed straight Sidmouth after last years Kaper, 15-20 miles further along the coast from Lyme, and arrived shortly after midnight.

We stayed in the area for a week or so, hopping between various campsites, before heading to Vdub Island on the Isle of Wight (ferry from Lymington).

Sidmouth folk week finished on 7th Aug so unfortunately you will miss it, but you could recommend it to the other members of your party, and Sidmouth is worth a visit in any case, we regularly go kayaking on the beach.

I know you have some steep hills up north, but the roads in/out of Lyme Regis (and some of the other Devon/Dorset seaside villages) aren't for the faint hearted, especially with a fully loaded Kombi incl trailer.

There's a really good Bistro set overlooking Lyme Bay, bizarrely it's in the middle of a static caravan park and the only way to get to it is to go through the centre of Lyme Regis and up the hill the other side. I'll try and find the name of it, some friends of ours who are local told us about it.

If you fancy braving the single track road that leads from Chideock to Seatown, you will find a campsite, a car park, a beach and a pub. The beach and campsite are ok, the car park is a car park, but the pub serves amazing food, it's worth it just for that!

As you might expect, Lyme Bay Wine Co is close by too - between Lyme Regis and Axminster, that's where we get the Annings cider from - our favourite non-spirit tipple.

I used to play tennis there. The courts are on the right hand side, heading into Lyme, with the key held in the Post Office. Family Farm was the other side of Trinity Hill. Loved it there and miss those days.

Allegedly, though it still seems to take an age to drive anywhere.

Might be a good time to look at buying a few Euros. Rates on the up and up , reports are saying it might go a couple of points higher.. Last week we were selling Euros at 1.26 through our Bureau De Change , today 1.32... By the way am not advocating you buy them through me , we only have a small facility for truck drivers...
